When taking pics of gardens look for natural shadows in the garden to use as a focal point or to create the illusion of textures and color.

Pac—What a great series of illustrative foto’s. Your gardens are gaspingly gorgeous…you know that, don’t you.
Just looking back over them a few times, I really am astounded that private gardens can look so absolutely beautiful in so many ways. You are too right that the darkness of shadows really can/does play a significant role in presenting each pic. Chapeau.

@Sjoerd Thanx . You are very kind indeed to take the time for a peek and comment. And the very same can be said about your beautiful well maintained and elaborately designed garden. It’s detailed in every way that keeps everyone’s interest. More harvest coming up soon from your veggie garden .

Oh meid, I think you are wrong there. Your garden areas are so much more formal anf beautiful than my little collection of plots…but thank you enormously anyway. Who doesn’t like a compliment now and then.

@Sjoerd you work so hard and plan down to the last detail. Growing from seed is an art within itself. I appreciate all the time and passion that goes into prep and timing along with that huge green thumb along with your bride who is always attentive to all the details too.

    Thanks so much, Pac.
It is what I like about this site— the gardeners on here, get it…they get gardening.

There was this one early evening shot I took after trimming back the lavender, and the way the light hit through the taller grasses made it look like something out of a magazine. The textures just popped. I had help shaping the layout from a local gardener I found on lookdevisservice.uk—made a big difference in how everything flows and photographs now.

Your gardens are stunning @Pacnorwest Your choice of colors and textures make each plant pop on its own. Youre spot on about shadows. The time of day we take photos makes so much difference in their quality.

My husband will be especially jealous of your fabulous green lawn.

Do we ever stop moving things around? Asking for a friend. (I've transplanted 2 panaculata hydrangeas this morning, one of which I've moved 2 times over the years)

Thank you Columbiariver. Light is so much prettier at early sunrise or at dusk , especially this time of year, with the fuchsia and orange sunsets. So much to play with as well as color shadows and textures.

Moving some plants always seem to sneak in with garden tasks . I seem to never stop trimming and limbing up trees and shrubs that seem to keep established plants in check and from overtaking others around them. Some plants grow faster than others… and sometimes that issue is not always factored in.
