I had asked for people to give me pine trees and a lady gave me these. She was unsure herself whether they were junipers or cedar trees. The big one may be a cedar tree, I don't know about the smaller ones, though. I have them out in direct sun and I do know they don't like a lot of water. In fact, even in little pots, they don't like to be watered more than once a week, even in 90 degree temps. If they do get too wet, they turn yellow and that's what I believe happened to these little ones. I'm better now at regulating the water on the larger one.

The little ones are a lighter shade of green and because of overwatering, they do have some yellowing.

This is the big one. It's about a foot + high and growing. 100_0443.JPG

These are the little ones around it - they're in the four pots to the left. They range from about three to six inches high:

    Most likely Juniper.
My Cedar tree seedlings don't look like that they are dark blueish green.

Same happens to me with Carolina Jasmine, the yellow flowering kind, and if I get a bit of those oils on my arm, the dang stuff spreads like poison ivy. It looks like it too !!

    Rose gloves next time, @Pacnorwest !! :D

I just had to go out and clip and move blackberry vines that were more than an inch thick and today I have scratches all up and down one arm like a cat clawed me. You know, I wouldn't mind the blackberry vines in my yard if they'd just have some blackberries on them. The only good thing about them is like the ferns, they die out every winter.

What do you treat the rash with???
I did have on gloves and long sleeves.. never had this happen before. I have tried everything to contain this rash except Fire. Not that I haven’t thought of it but not willing to go that route although it works well eliminating garden pests and weeds. I have a blow torch that used during spring helps eliminate weeds, blackberry’s, poison oak and sumac as well as some very sneaky things that are still feared and totally unknown to me. For instance , those puffball mushrooms that look exactly like truffles . Except when digging them out of the ground they snap and bajillions of spores fly out creating a smoke bomb effect. Not the greatest experience that Mother Nature has created, but the ground shrooms always seem to delight in creating havoc wherever they are found. I have been seriously thinking about injecting them with vinegar , horticultural that is. Hoping this will stop the spread of this ridiculousness.

Calamine lotion. You have to run water over your rash, pat, don't rub, it dry and put on the calamine. Three or more times a day.

Thank you Anniekay… glad that works for you . Luv that white/pinky spread from both wrists to my elbows… not helping much …seems to be spreading to my neck…. :smt022 I have that and so many other things designed for rash relief. Anti inflammatory’s , antihistamine’s in pill form . It’s a major bummer… Hoping it will eventually stop spreading so I can get some sleep sometime soon. :dizzy:

Here's something I heard about poison oak - would probably work with poison ivy as well.

If you're exposed to it or get it on your skin, make sure to rinse it off with cold water. If you use hot water, that will open the pores and possible bring the oil further into your skin. With cold water, the oil just rinses right off.

I don't have hot water at home in my trailer (I heat it on the stove) and I'm finding out that's true about a lot of stuff with cold water. When I need to wash something off my hands, I use liquid soap and simply work it into my hands, then use cold water to rinse off both the soap and whatever the soap has lifted off my hands. The only thing this doesn't work for is greasy stuff, like if I've been handling hamburger or bacon.

@rodentraiser thank you for the cold water tip. Sure makes sense, better than scratching. This rash is from the oils of the junipers. I recently clipped back a huge hedge along the driveway. Have doe it for years but this time I developed an allergic reaction. Went to the urgent care clinic and was prescribe a topical steroid that has worked wonders. Geezzz what next?

Now with additional info in the above post no hot water … I think I have a better understanding of the septic tank pump situation for your water use. For hot water can you look into a propane or a butane tank to warm your water to the faucet so you won’t have to warm it on the stove. The stove is running on either propane or butane? Right?

Um, well, no. The stove is run with two propane tanks I have to fill every couple of months or so. But I simply don't have the money for a large propane tank and I doubt I could even afford to fill it all at once if I did. I was thinking of an instant hot water heater, but honestly, there are so many things right now that have priority, it's way, way down on the list. Things that need done NOW (like yesterday LOL) are my car (engine light, Trac light, ABS light, and airbag lights are all on on the dash) and I also have a leak somewhere under the sink which has soaked the floor in the living room for two years now. And the trailer itself leaks from both the roof and the windows.

This is just a throwaway trailer, although I'd hoped to have a lot more money saved to get a better one by this time. This year was brutal: my car insurance doubled, the road maintenance fees went up, the monthly water bill went up, I had the fence put in around the front of the trailer, I paid someone to go around the perimeter of my property to take out all the Scotch broom, I needed a new canopy cover for my canopy, the cat needed a vet visit this year, I spent way more than I have in the past on soil and plants, and this was with everything else going up, like food and gas.

Now next year I was hoping to put the fence around the whole yard. Just put in the metal poles, because I won't be able to afford anything else. Then the year after that, buy the netting and hopefully pay someone to attach it to the poles, and then the year after that, maybe I can get some raised beds for veggies.

I'm here for the long haul. I've been on my lot now since 2021 and I've got the driveway in, the septic, electric, and water all in and paid for, plus a nice shed on the property. I sort of have a lawn, too, even though the contractor screwed that up. So I'm not doing too bad.

Eventually, I'll probably take out a loan for another trailer and when I do that, I know I'll never have any spare money again, so everything has to be taken care of before I do that. Now all I worry about is the car. I asked the mechanic if he could keep it going for another 10 years and he just looked at me. Then laughed. So there's that. LOL

I’ve attached my lattice sections fence to T Posts. The same posts used for the horses.
Thanks for the propane explanation for hot water , cooking etc.
I hope you can fix all the leaks before winter comes. The floor leak , do you know where the water is coming from ?

@rodentraiser I don't recommend an instant water heater. There was one in my house and it was useless for anything more than a quick hand wash. It only heats what's in the box and if you want to shower, you have to wait for the water to get hot, get under and get wet and get out FAST before the cold water comes through. Then soap up, wait for it to get hot again and rinse real fast !! Useless for whole house hot water, those things. I gave mine to the guy who put my water heater in.

Watch at the Home Centers for when they put a 40 gallon water heater on sale. Get the heater, ( you can even get 6months no interest ) then get a plumber to install it. So long as it's installed near a water line it's not too expensive. Cost me $125 to get mine installed.

I don't. It could be from the sink, or it could be from a pipe under the floor, in which case the entire floor will need to come up.

The leaks won't be fixed this year. If nothing happens, I can save quite a bit of money every month, but every month has something special that needs to be paid. Car registration, car insurance, taxes, road maintenance dues, etc. I'm thinking of cancelling Christmas this year, though, and just send out a few cards. That would save me...um, *writes a few figures down* well, not much. LOL Ah, well.

That's not a bad price at all for a water heater installation.

For some reason I thought an instant water heater heated the water instantly as the water went through the instant heater. Well, I really don't have a decent shower, anyway. The line to drain that is backed up. I can dump a bowl of water down the drain and it will drain in about 6 hours. Not sure what a full-on 10 minute shower would do. I'd probably have water up to my knees.

My trailer is from 1984. Rather than throw any money into it, I'd rather save and get something better. $20,000 will buy a really nice trailer. I can get a loan for that much. If I can save $10,000 to add to that, I could get a 42ft trailer with at least 4 bump outs and maybe an arctic package.

Now that I could live with.
