The foliage is just starting to turn color. Most early color change posted as a “Sneak Peak”, at early leaf color changes on individual plants the beginning of Autumn. Plants in the PNW show early fall colors due to a combination of weather related conditions, higher - northern altitudes. The triggering response to shorter days and cooler nights during early-season leading to production of more sugars .

These conditions are also setting the stage for berries to ripen on holly trees and roses to set hips for hungry birds and many other plants to set seed . This is the perfect conditions for fall foliage color. Dry no rain , cooler nights, latitude and shorter days.

Pine cones are a poppin. I hear them pop like pop corn literally, the sounds of seeds being dispersed during cooler weather some may open and close and others pop during warmer temps during the day.

This event …‘ Pine Cone Popping ‘ , is squirrel heaven. I want to praise my squirrels for their faithfulness and reliability. The squirrels have started digging in every pot they could find .This is their process for canning their food for winter. I thought I was thinking ahead this year and put a netting cloth tucked under pots over the fall blooming pots. Worked very well for a few days until the wind blew them off. My dear squirrels started digging in those pots and all the pots I moved to the greenhouse. Every pot is full of holes missing the very plants I was planning on preserving over the winter.

Apologies for this long rant . It helps to come to terms with the millions of preparations for winter.

Some bery nice Autumn pics of berries.

Today the hop vine is changing so fast. Yeap the hops that go into making beer. A huge export crop for Oregon.

Thanks @Anniekay. Nice concrete American Indian goes with out saying & the coyote howling is a common occurance here.

Yes, the American Indian statue and howling coyote is a representation of American Indian culture, specifically the importance of the coyote as a trickster, creator, and symbol of wisdom in the mythology and folklore of many Native American tribes, especially those of the Southwest. The coyote's enduring presence in stories and spiritual beliefs reflects its deep cultural significance and its connection to the natural world. A small salute to many.
