A friend sent me this photo of a tree she wants to cut down since it's growing next to the shed. I want it !! I'm going to try air layering it and see if I can get a good root system. I don't think digging it up would promote survival. It's too tall. But, it has pretty frilly flowers on.
I did a image search on Google and this is what it came up with. Dogfennel is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the southeastern United States. It is known for its tall, upright stems and feathery, finely-dissected leaves that resemble green threads. The plant can grow to be 3 to 6 feet tall and has a strong, unpleasant odor when the leaves are crushed. It can be found in fields, clearings, and along roadsides, and is sometimes considered a weed.
Google is wrong @Logan . I know dog fennel. It grows all over the South. It resembles this in leaf and flower, somewhat, but dog fennel has foliage growing all the way up the stem, has no wood trunk, just a green stem and doesn't get this tall. Thanks for trying, though. I appreciate it.
I was just going to say Hog's Fennel https://michaelpeverett.blogspot.com/2013/09/sea-hogs-fennel-peucedanum-officinale.html
That's another name for dog fennel. Stinking Chamomile's another. My goats won't eat it but I suppose that a hungry hog wouldn't turn it down.
