Thank you @Anniekay i had to have heat treatment and then traction for my back and years later a chiropractor told me that i might need a operation, but I'm doing fine as long as i don't do too much gardening. It's good that you are coping with your back.

Not much lately it's been raining.

Yesterday I had to redo my elf garden unear the two japanese maples in the shade garden. They have almost gotten buried by leaves so, I removed them and moved them over a bit after laying some concrete chunks out for them to rest on.

Then I started weedeating. I want to get all that done so that I can just pull out the rider and be finished. Sometimes I weedeat first and sometimes after mowing but it's more gratifying, after cutting with the rider, to see the grass all finished than to weedeat adter mowing and have it looking all scruffy.

I'll finish the grass today and see if I can get some seed in the raised beds for turnips, carrots, lettuce and radishes.

Anniekay would luv to see pics of your fairy garden under the Japanese maples. :smt055

Today is another day doing fall clean up . Finally all the trees are down and really have a lot of new areas to think about during winter . I thinking towards planting something that doesn’t attract the horrible ground squirrels .
    Other critters too.

More pics from the trees that needed to be taken out. Skilled lumberjacks I am grateful for their service and proper trimming . Still have plenty of tall wonderful trees left in the garden.

Aren't you getting those stumps ground? Makes good compost when it's aged a bit.

I got some shallots in, a pound of them, some brocvoli, cauliflower and something else that I didn't recognize, nor did I label it !!
Oh well, surprise veg for me !! :D

In THE MORNING I will plant lettuce seed in the raised bed along side the shallots and turnip and spinach in another bed that I am now. watering in preparation for planting Then Carrots with peas in another bed, and parsnips with more peas in another.

I also cleared the vines and other stuff, wisteria I had to dig up, off my back fence earlier in the day.

I'm dreading the Florida betony removal from the SE corner since it's totally poluted with the stuff !!

Pac, yes! They are garden gold.
This year, I'm not going to the old neighborhood in town anymore, collecting leaves. The supply will have to come from my own yard.

Fortunately, some of the trees I planted 15 years ago are producing a supply now.

    IMG_4827.jpeg

The garlic plantings have been covered and are ready for winter too, Those leaves will stay until harvest next summer.

    IMG_4843.jpeg

The first large raised bed is covered by neighbor leaves.

    IMG_4838.jpeg

Still a ton of work to do this winter, pruning, cleanup, and renovation of the three raised beds that were invaded by moles. Those are the hardest work to do.

I got my Golden turnip seed planted down the center of a raised bed and had just enough spinach seed from last year to make a row down each side. I'm mulching with hay. My trees haven't dropped many leaves yet so, no leaf blowing to do and none to blow into my shade garden yet.

Then I planted Mache, or Corn Salad along the outsides of the bed that my shallots are in. I was going to plant Tom Thumb lettuce there but, the packet said to soak them over night and to nick them. Well, my hands are small but not THAT small that I can hold a tiny lettuce seed and nick it !! So, I'm just going to soak them. I've never had to soak or nick any other lettuce seed before. If they don't germinate I'll plant my Buttercrunch. No pre-planting preparation required.

I'm watering another bed in preparation for peas and parsnips to be planted there, then another for carrots and peas. The carrots in that bed will be little fingers.

Then I'll warer another tonight for broadbeans tomorrow.

@Pacnorwest , sorry about your trees.

DS has not yet had time to cut down our cherry trees that the cicadas killed last summer. There are a number of other dead trees to cut down in various areas. His "honey-do" list is quite long. There is a dead pine in my pasture, and some dead mimosas here and there, including two at the very end of the drain pipe. He either has to dig out roots and cut those trees down, or reroute the drain pipe to avoid their roots? The 2d option probably involves more ditch digging... I do not want to dig more ditches. Actually, my shoulders won't tolerate it.

We had our first FROST of the season overnight. The forecast was for 45F overnight, but we had frost. And it was only 40 when I got up this morning. It was in the 60s today.

I brought in my spider plants, and Boston ferns today, and one of my lemon trees. I have 3 more lemon trees and my 2 fig trees to bring in. I also need to harvest my ginger, but it is not going dormant just yet. And the one pot has 2 flower stalks that have not yet bloomed. I am trying to find room for those plants.

I did work some more on my last mowing of the season. I still have to mow around my house, the kids' house and the dog houses for sure. I ought to mow the path to my pond also... (and the rider is not yet fixed, no idea why)

I need to harvest things like my dried beans, and sweet potatoes, and some other stuff, and of course remove the dead plants and weed.... I need to harvest some of my herbs too. I never did get any fall plants planted yet.

Allegedly we are to have rain next week.

I love to use my leaves.... and those wood chips were great. There is a chip drop service around here someplace, I hope to sign up for more wood chips. As long as they put the pile off to the south side of my drive way, there is no great hurry to move them. I had that double pile about 2 1/2 years or so ago, and they have been great. That service shows up on FB.

After that lady comes and gets my birdhouse gourds, I will start moving horsey-poo to my compost heap over the winter.

    Busy couple of hours today.

More leaf collection on the front lawn.

Including a lot from this area between the azaleas and my "party fence."

There's still plenty more to come down.

The chrysanthemums in the pot by the front door were finished and now it's the turn of this heather.

The leaves on this wisteria were "turning."

So I stripped them, as I usually do this time of the year, before the frost arrives.

As always, the "heads" are too "busy."

I'll reduce the number of the many branches on each when I do the serious pruning in the week between Christmas and the New Year.

The other wisterias are still hanging on.

The acer palmatums are slowly turning more red every day, they'll continue to do this until the frost gets them.

That's me for today, all the Geraniums are trimmed, potted up and in their Winter abode now ( the big lean- to coldframe). All the tender Fuchsias have been treated to a spruce up as well and are now cosy under the greenhouse staging.

Stripped two more wisterias. A small one in the bed at the bottom of the garden and the one on the side of the house. Lots of new buds on both.
