Raining all day, off and on and we got so far, 1/8" :(
But, I had a very late bush bean plant come up in late sept. I just picked two handfuls of beans off it and they're cooking as I type. I guess next year late summer is the time to plant here. All the other bush bean planted in spring succumbed to the heat and never produced at all.

Another day of clean up from that monster wind storm last week. Had 40-60mph winds. A lot of stems from the trees cover everything , needles everywhere and leaves all blown Willy Nilly. Driveway and porches roof all blasted with all types of debris. Leaf blower helped with most of it and then used the mower mulcher.

Mowed the pastures while mulching all the debrie from the wind storm. More deciduous huge leaves are falling from the 80’ maples, designer cherry’s, vine like the hops , clematis , climbing roses, Parthenocissus quinquefolia. All going down hill fast in a hand basket.

Mulched huge piles of garden debris . Piles about 3’x20’ in the pastures. All gone fertilized and the grass pastures.

Collected rose hips, colorful autumn vine leaves, evergreen clippings, holly & holly berries and pine cones for holiday displays.
I’m pooped. But for some odd reason I feel energized. :smt031 I think it was the sunshine today. So bright , sunny and cheerful. I am very susceptible to the energy from the sun much like solar batteries. Woohooo…! I mean energized internally . Externally not so much.. ouch!:(

Sounds like a very productive day indeed Pac..:D
We still have leaves and debris to clear up from our spell of strong winds of last week ,but it will have to wait as we have appointments on every day this week. Plus I'm still treating my back with care.
I can't wait to get out there and knuckle down to do some serious clean up.

It's cold and a bit windy. The garden is quite damp.
My "stand" of bamboo along the back fence is looking good, but presents a problem at this time of the year.

It sheds a lot of leaves and some of the canes die off.
The leaves don't rot down and it's a pain trying to remove them. Those between the bottoms of the canes have to be blown out and it's too wet at the moment to attempt to do it. I'll remove any dead canes in the spring.

I took out the rest of the clump black bamboo -
Bambusa lako (Timor Black). A clumping species, unlike the more common running black bamboo, Phyllostachys nigra. It does not spread and stays nice a neat where it’s put. It is not invasive and I luved its wispy leaves and stands blowing in the wind , a polite evergreen species.

This particular species (unbeknownst to me at time purchased ) has a 100 year gene that signals the bamboo to flower and then dies. All areas at once in four large sections of the garden. Nothing more irritating than a century hidden gene to deal with - times up die. Who wudda thought ? Taking this tall bamboo out was like wrestling with a herd of cats. Yikes stems facing every which way, tough as steel, struggling to wrap my arms around a few to pick up once cut and lay aside for clean up, :smt027 we were at war . Finally after several frustrating hours all the dead bamboo stands are out of the entire garden. I’m taking a break for the rest of the day, and a chocolate bar to nurse my ego. :smt035

Only picked some more Cox's Pippin apples this morning before heading out for most of the day. Hubs had to attend a pre assessment app.and see the anaesthetist prior to his forthcoming surgery. Both apps took most of the day.

While walking Rufus yesterday, I ran into a neighbor. He told me how crummy the store apples are. Later, I picked some Jonathan, Cosmic Crisp, and Liberty from my mini trees and took them to his house.

This morning I ran into him again. He said. over and over, how good those apples tasted. I felt good about that.

There were still some Jonathan on the mini tree. I picked them for the fridge. They are amazingly good.

I planted another container rose in the chicken yard. One less to water next summer. I have two remaining container roses, of the original ten. If I was younger I would have kept them that way but watering every day through these hot summers is too much for me now.

I raked the remaining leaves from the red maple. Those covered a raised bed. I was going to plant the rest of the garlic, but I felt tired.

Had to put a fence up where the bog used to be.

Some folk view a hole in the hedge as an invite to walk their dogs round the campsite :suspicious:

Not sure if I mentioned what we did to the bog?

    @Daniel W
    (And everyone else) :p

I have an apple story. My now deceased husband I took his 6 year old granddaughter camping with us in late September. She had a front bottom tooth that was very wiggly, just hanging by a few threads, that she said was driving her nuts. I had just returned from a trip to Massachusetts and brought back a bushel of fresh picked apples.

I told her I had a cure for that tooth issue. As kids, we New Englanders got a "wiggler" out by taking a nice big bite out of a crisp, freshly picked apple and that tooth would come right out into that bit. She looked at me with scepticism but took that bite. There was the tooth embedded in the bite !! :D
