Awww thank you Oreti and Sjoerd. Like so many here , your both seasoned gardeners and it’s a very special day when you take the time to comment on my autumn garden.
Cryptomeria tree in the right side of pic below changes from bright green to copper brown /golden color in winter. Cryptomeria japonica Elegans is an important tree in forests. It’s slow growing , insect and decay resistant and beautifully textured which makes it suitable for sustainable timber production. The national tree in Japan and holds considerable cultural importance. It’s slow growing and one of the easiest trees to manage year round in the entire garden.
Nearly 30 million acres of Oregon landscape is covered in forests which is almost half the state covered in various species of trees. Forest management and the state government is always involved with continuing education to the public . Several museums dedicated to the forestry service, logging along with a huge lumber & Xmas tree export in the PNW. Conservation, Education and Research is a huge benefit for the economy. Basically I live in the middle of a rain forest . So trees have become a lifestyle in many ways . They cool the home in summer and protect the home in winters. The vast resources available along with the1000 varieties and sub-varieties of trees , as well as living in the world’s most productive forests on earth . This offers no escape from learning about trees especially when you’re surrounded by these majestic trees while logging continues all around you . You know some information has got to rub off on Oregonians living in the world’s most beautiful forests with the largest classification of deciduous and evergreen trees . That is why most of my garden is dedicated to trees. Luv my trees.
Very nice autumn color Zigs . The name of the plant escapes me at the moment . I had some of that in my garden but abolished it , as it was extremely invasive in this zone. It’s a very pretty fast growing deciduous small tree or shrub.
Today’s pics are of 2 very old ornamental Japanese weeping cherry trees - Prunus subhirtella 'Pendula' . - one stands guard by the house the other the driveway. Also the oldest and largest ornamental Japanese cherry tree in Oregon is the Owen cherry tree in Eugene Oregon, believed to have been planted in 1847 by city co-founder Eugene Skinner . The tree is estimated to be 178 years old. And the grape vines are also slowly giving way to winters calling. Layered ID- first layer are the grape vines . Background colorful Japanese ornamental cherry trees and behind them the giant Douglas fir trees native to Oregon.
Today’s autumn color pics are dwindling down to very few deciduous trees and shrubs left. Fuchsia pink leaves on this small tree trained as a shrub. Cotinus coggygria, syn. Rhus cotinus, the European smoketree.
Looking out across the valley to the mountains to the east of our pasture. Trees, trees, and more tress as far as you can see. Where as the state tree the huge Douglas Fir trees are the most dominant tree in every direction.
Ta Pac Think they're called Sumach Trees. I used to call them Polycell trees when I was a Ziglet as the sap looks like wallpaper paste This is one of the Liriodendrons, Tetters planted it when she was a Tetterlet
Zigs thank you and yes sumac they grow like weeds. Very nice tulip tree and beautiful fall color . I have not seen many around the cities or residential neighborhoods here. They are wide spread across the eastern part of the US but not well grown in the western states. Today’s fall leaf colors. And a berry plant…?
