I was able to get some more of my hostas transplanted to the shady area today. And I transplanted my ostrich plume fern there also. I bought a new rosemary plant from a friend's garden the other day and I got that planted outdoors near my new asparagus bed. I mulched it with straw good, so I hope it will be fine.

The varmints have been trying to dig into the chicken coop again, so I sprinkled two jars of cayenne pepper where they have been digging. Maybe that will deter them? I wish I had some powdered ghost peppers, they are supposed to be the hottest peppers there are. My son checked that area this afternoon and did not think they could get through. I am having the chickens sleep in the rabbit crate for now, it is a heavy guage steel and more secure. They have plenty of straw in there, and double tarps over it and is inside their play area.

Annie, I know the feeling. Ya watch the weather and hope the rain will come only to see on radar that again the storm splits and goes around you. Or it shifts a little north and you watch as that area gets drenched while you stay completely dry. Sometimes I feel like there is a magnetic field over us that repels precipitation. But I trust Mother Nature has her reasons. Like Job we tuff out the hard times. :fingerscrossed:

I ran around picking up all my tools, disconnected my hoses, covered the water spigot, and collected all my potted plants including two big heavy pots of Kimberly ferns and put them in my laundry room. The wind knocked down a bunch of branches so those are picked up too. I closed up all the vents to the crawl space under the house as well.

Since it's garbage day in the morning I put the trash by the road and I paid my electric bill and property taxes too. Of course they moved the office where you pay your property taxes to the opposite end of the building !! I told the girl :
"You people are as bad as Walmart for moving things
    around !! ". :) She giggled.

What did I do today? Don’t know … all I know is that I started at 7 am and finally had dinner at 9pm. Dealt with a new roof leak and several issues caused by the last rain, wind storm, which included dealing with wet blankets sheets and stained walls in the guest bedroom . Will tackle that roof leak tomorrow . I’m pretty sure I know where the leak is. Kind of frustrating as a new roof was put on less than 5 years ago. If it’s not a simple wet patch fix then will have to call the roof contractors.,

Roofers and CONTRACTORS . OMG don’t even get me started… never good experiences with many contractors.
Honestly I could write a book. I found every so called professional contractor that created more damages and issues in the long run. Something’s never change.

Also the tank in the guest bath was leaking water where the tank is attached to the bowl with long screws.
Emptied out the tank dried it, but the screws were rusted and I could not get them off.. tried using WD then tried to loosen them with a small impact driver. No luck. I don’t want to break the bowl. So calling a Plummer tomorrow, ugh.

I turned off the water to the exterior faucets used only for the garden plants and covered exterior water faucets to protect from freezing. Drained the faucets and disconnected the hoses since cleaning the debris off the roof from last weeks storm . Each roofing section is different roofing materials. Flat top is torch down, corrugated is see thru - cleaned and all clear now let there be light and well the concrete pitched tile roof is still growing its own moss garden . I used bleach to spray the tiles and went ahead and cleared the scuppers and gutters and unclogged a couple drain pipes. But one drain pipe is not cooperating still totally clogged. I’m thinkin drill holes in the darn drain so it can at least drain down from roof level.

I did manage to use the leaf blower to clear the leaves still falling and covering the driveway from the weeping cherry trees. But didn’t get the roof again.
The garden is still covered in needles from the last storm. As soon as I get my mulcher mower back from the shop I can mulch the pine needle that I use for compost.

Since my rider mower blew the deck belt and is in the shop I walked the pastures early this am where I usually use the garden tractor . It was very foggy and all of a sudden I heard the stampede roar of elk coming and before I knew the herd was running thru the east woods and thru the pasture. Scared me to death they ran right past me the thudding on the ground was powerfully loud. I think I will wait for my tractor to be returned before walking thru the woods and pastures again. At least the wild herds of deer and elk can hear the tractor . I can’t maneuver to fast or climb to get out of harms way. So that incident really frightened me to the bone.

I can see the news headlines now. “ Old Lady was pinned up in the trees while getting away from a stampede of elk”.

Alrighty then… tomorrow’s another day. Keep your fingers crossed it’s a lot less stressful than today turned out. :fingerscrossed:

Oh My, Oh My Pac:eek: !!!

What a day you had yesterday!!!
Thank goodness you weren't in the track of the stampeding Elk. That was too close for comfort.

Maintenance is a constant worry as is finding competent and trustworthy workers...not sure what is worse the upheaval the issues cause or the worry of sourcing a good reliable workforce.
Wishing you all the luck in the world.:setc_083:
I hope today is a day filled with only 'nice surprises' for you.x

    @Pacnorwest
Gramma got run over by a Mule deer.
Walking through the field one foggy morn.
    :)
You need an Indian walking stick. As you walk the beads hit the stick and make a clanging noise. Good to warn any animal that there's something clattering around in your direction.
It's just a bamboo stick with a deerskin wrapped handle, fringed with beads attached. Makes a good clattery noise, and if anything gets too close, you can always whack them with it. :p

Hubs and I spruced up the kitchen patio slabs.

For the last couple of years we haven't used the jet power washer as...and to some this may sound bonkers....we felt the achieved results were too clean !!! :chuckle: Mad I know but it is nearly 40 years old and to us it looks more natural when not cleaned to pristiness ( is that an actual word:shrug:,)

A friend of hubs has popped over...so I have taken myself off...with a coffee... and am now snuggled up in our little snug lounge watching Garden Rescue......armchair gardening:smt044:setc_083:.
