When I was young I drove my motorcycle all over the place. First time I went to Canada, my dumb ass didn't know they used KPH so I was speeding all over the place. Luckily, before I realized it, I never got pulled over. Probably cause the police saw that I was so handsome and way cool... like Bronson.

Yeah, everyone thinks that it's so cool on the Autobahn in Germany because there aren't speed limits but going 80 is really only around 65mph and there are only no speed limits in parts of the Autobahn. Other sections do have limits of 80kph = around 65mph. You just think you' going fast in Germany. Mostly your limit is 35mph.

    Back on subject.
We didn't get one drop of frost. I was up at 6:45 am, looked out and all the grass was green. Took the dog out and the grass was dry. It was windy so frost never formed.

They sayyyy... ...we had a low of 27°f and the high will be 55 . It's sunny and the sky is clear. I looked over at the inside thermostat. It was very cold indeed because I have a heat pump. I put it in emergency heat last night and had it set on 67. Inside temp was 63. It must've been the wind drying out the air so that not enough moisture was there to create frost.

I have a heat pump too. This one doesn’t heat if the outside temps are below 50-55F. So emergency heat is really another option meaning heat pumps can’t warm a home if outside temps are below a certain temp. When the oil furnace takes over it can heat fast. I just had the oil fuel tank 550 gal filled for the oil furnace @ $4.35 per gallon. I remember when it was only 85 cents a gallon. I close off rooms I don’t use in winter and heat just a few rooms only. We don’t have access to natural gas . All electric heat system is astronomical to heat this house. So we upgraded to a new model oil furnace a few years ago. The maintenance on this system is a yearly expense tuning the heat nozzels etc. another 300 dollars every year for that.

Pac we are like you, we don't have gas up our lane...or main waste drainage either!! We too close off unused rooms during winter . We have 6 bedrooms and unless any of our brood come on visits and require their rooms we see no point in wasting both unnecessary energy and money. We regularly check out these rooms to ensure they are dry ( no condensation on the windows etc.) and aired.
We also close off out main family lounge too and use the snug.
Have to say it does cut down the housework by closing up these rooms!! ;):D:whistling:

We got frost this morning, since there was no breeze and the low was 31°f. Just a light frost across my front yard, by the road where there aren't any large trees to catch the moisture in the air. Sunny and the high is supposed to be 68.

@Pacnorwest I put my heat pump on emergency only if it is going to drop below freezing. Otherwise it keeps up with heating the house to 67-68 without an issue. I have a small house that looks bigger than it is. Four large rooms, 15 x 16 for 3 of them and the kitchen is only 12x 14, it was added on as soon as the town got water, fire hydrants and a Fire Station.

Ten foot ceilings, a bath, laundry room and 8x13 front hall. So, there isn't really much to heat. The laundry room doesn't have a heat grate. I had the long, narrow North facing porch cut in half and walls and a window installed to create the laundry room so I close that off on cold night to decrease heating costs. The heat pump installer told me not to close heat registers off in rooms because it stresses the system. I don't know if that's true but I take his word for it.

I close the heat pump floor registers because the system was designed to close off rooms when not in use. This is a huge savings on electric and fuel costs. Heat pump systems are different in different areas around the country due to weather differences.

No rain is expected today, but tomorrow there will be, just gives enough time for my shoes to dry out.
