We've not bothered with these for decades, nor do we have a Christmas Tree. Well... we do.... but it's been in the loft for over thirty years,

We do string the many Christmas Cards we receive, or they get stuck to painted surfaces with a bit of Sellotape.
Most years, I've put the lights up around the front door, to show that we've made a bit of effort. Many of the houses in our road have similar front doors, so a few do something like we used to do. But I haven't even put the lights up for a couple of years.
As the weather has been wet and gloomy for a few days, I thought I'd make the effort.
It's a pain to get them balanced, (not many people would bother). This cheap Chines lights are probably assembled by child labour and they don't always get the bulbs equidistant from each other. So they always need a "bit of fettling." Anyway they're up.

On their own, they look a bit "threatening."

They look better with the table lamp on.

    Thanks for that.

All the houses in our road are quite small.

Our entrance is unusual. There was a second rectangular doorway with glass panels either side and over the top of a door. It butted up to the edge of that pillar on the right. So all the houses when they were built in 1965, had a small arched porch.
A lot of residents put something like what we have now at the front, as did the previous owners of the house, but they retained the inner door. We called it "the air lock." The front door had to open outwards and the second door opened inwards.
But when we had double glazing fitted in place of the outer door, we had the inner door removed. I had to make a new bit of flooring to level it all up, as there was a step down to the door at the front .

The front door has a fillet below it, as there's a small void below the new bit of floor. Under the rest of the house there's an 18" void as they all built on concrete rafts.

Both sides of the original porch had to be plastered. Our front door opens as it should, inwards.
We gained about 18" in the hall. We wouldn't have been able to have that shoe cupboard in the corner, without the little "extension."

DHR your house is very stylish and x-mas lights always seems so getting used to. I like the way you hug them . Not too much, not to little… Just right. :)

I hung one of those light curtains in the window. Remote control can change the picture light to Santa, snowman, many different designs for different holidays. Right now it just a moving something with softly flashing colors . I always like the holidays lit up with all the clever holiday designs to celebrate each year…
Sorry it’s blurry but the lights are moving with the mode set to make various pics for the holidays.
Just learning how to figure out the remote with 25 different buttons and pics.

I haven't got any Christmas decorations up yet; we haven't had Thanksgiving yet !! I have just the tree in the libingroom and if I feel like it, I put a couple strings of lights around the railings on the front porch.

Last year's pics. tree with the Christmas pickle.

Very pretty holiday tree , luv the pickle. Well appointed ornaments and lights. They always add cheer and happiness to a home a delightful ambiance .

I leave my 15’ tree up thruout the year, on a timer comes on everyday at the same time . it’s become a normal piece of furniture around here. It’s to heavy to take apart every holiday with having to balance on a 2 story ladder to add the heavy 4’ tree section and ornaments. So I just leave it up… it’s always a holiday here seasonal decorations are added year round and birthdays. I have so many trees outside why not indulge with another inside. :chuckle:

On the subject of Christmas... Our usual Christmas dinner is sorted. I bought four packs of these yesterday. You have to buy them early, as they always run out by mid-December and don't get any more.
My wife has a recipe for them.
