Still bedding down the Dahlias. I got hubs to dig up a couple of big ones that have outgrown their space . They will get divided and found a new home next Spring. Still have more to be done, I seem to work at a snail's pace just lately.

I went out and blew leaves. I got about 1/4 of the half acre done before running out of batteries. I went through three of them. This year the leaves fell off way earlier than usual. They normally don't make a thick layer until February. I had to use full power there were so many piled up.

I got my shade garden and the mulberry tree, covered with leaves, then the blueberry bushes all have a good layer over them as well. Next will be my shrubs, fruit trees and blackberries mulched with the remaining leaves. If I can get those done tomorrow before the rain comes, I will be a happy girl !!.

We had heavy rains yesterday, but sunny today with some clouds. I used the hedge trimmer and cut my clumps of pampas grass down. I took the dried grass from one clump to my horse for bedding, and the other one I put in my chicken coop for them for bedding. Then I took it down the path to my pond. I am STILL waiting on my friend to fix the riders. I got to my pond finally, and there is a dead tree down in my pond. Not sure how we will get it out, but maybe tying a rope to the trunk and pulling it up onto the bank? The top of the bank is our property line with the neighbor on that side. ... I will have to see if I can get hold of my neighbors. If they want the log fine, if not fine.

If the weather allows, I will take the push mower down the path when I can. Hopefully, I can get at more leaves tomorrow?

It has been cold here, the high was about 33F today.

I make homemade 'suet' for my wild birdies and they are enjoying it. I used peanutbutter, crisco, chicken grains, oatmeal, cornmeal and some of the old elderberries in it. It depends what I have on hand what goes in it, but the birds love it.

Today I cleaned up some of the chicken yard. The paving stones in their outdoor screen porch had sunk into the mud, so I also cleaned those off. The willow leaves had buried the path, so I cleared those too.

Then I cleared half of the front area lava rock, using the leaf blower to remove fallen maple leaves.

Leaf clearing time is coming to a close soon.

One of the newer persimmon trees. This one requires pollination for the fruit to be sweet while crisp. It's called "Nishimura wase" or "coffee cake".

    These are quite tasty!

    Not much else today.

@AAnightowl maybe you could leave the log in the pond for the turtles to climb up on. Save yourself the bother.

Daniel— those look delicious. Better watch out that the opossums don’t get them. Good that you have some protective fencing around that bush/ tree.

I got into this lot this morning after shopping and a bit of "housework."

A lot I got out with a stiff brush and then a "hands and knees job" with a dustpan and brush. I did use my garden vac on some bits, but you have to be careful as it will suck up loose soil and jam itself if you aren't careful. The leaves behind the bamboo will have to wait for a dryer day.

It still needs a bit of a hoe.

Mowed the lawn and cleared more leaves from the back of the main border.
The mower picks up the leaves, though it did cut the grass a bit.

I gave the lawn a dose of iron sulphate on the areas prone to moss and the rest some general fertiliser as the grass is still growing.

The front garden needs more leaves collecting, I might do that tomorrow when I come home from golf.

I called it a day at 2.15pm as it was already starting to get dark.

A deer died in my yard and the county wouldn't take it. I had to dig a hole and bury it.

Deer are really big! That was a hard job!

Despite the drizzle for most of the afternoon hubs and I did get some very necessary tasks done in the garden.
The recent strong winds had dislodged a pane of glass in the greenhouse.....so glad we got to it before it slipped down completely...phew!. It also blew a couple of roof tiles off....we will book our builder friend to sort them out. The biggest concern was the corner covering on the lean - to coldframe that ,as usual, got a battering and ripped. This area is always a troublesome spot and takes on the full brunt of all the strong winds that occur....even a summer breeze can occasionally think itself a mini tornado as it blows through that side of our garden, the only damage that is ever found is always in that area.

I did however also manage to bed down another border of Dahlias.:like: I dug one up to overwinter and re-home in a new spot next Spring. I think there are only 8-10 left to do.
Probably won't get done this week now as we are out tomorrow and then have our eldest coming down on Thursday for the weekend.....can't wait !!:smt026:smt055
