@Daniel W , that is awful that you had to bury that poor deer. I know I did much of our ditch digging last spring and early summer, but I took my jolly old time and still have very sore shoulders at times. (Hot showers and the heating pad help.) I would never be able to dig a hole big enough for an adult deer. I even have my son help if one of our dogs die. I guess I would have to ask my neighbor with a tractor to come dig such a big hole... I do have a dry-ish lagoon in the woods from when my Mother had her mobil home here, it could maybe be dragged to that. If anything happens to Horsey, I would have to have her put in that. I suppose a dead deer could be dragged by my neighbor's tractor off into our woods. That is where they normally die, except when hit by vehicles.

DS is still working on filling that ditch back in when he is here. It is about 1/3 filled back in so far. My shoulders just won't let me do much of it now. He has replaced about 2/3 of the drain pipe so far. We have more pipe, but there are several dead trees at the end of the line that need removed. Their roots are in the way.

We had about 1/2 inch of snow overnight, but the sun came out later in the morning and it all melted off. I did not do much except clean up after the dogs. It was about 30 today. Supposedly, it will get into the 40s and I will get out when it warms up into the 40s and do more raking.

Guess what? It's raining. So nothing will be done in the garden today, but there's household chores to be done and some shopping.

I picked another purple radish. There's not much else to do in this off and on drizzle we are having.

Leaves are still fallen and they are mulched . Lots of leaves of several different maples and wisterias.

Ya all know the ole Farmers Almanac saying. “ Where there’s decaying leaves there’s worms. Where there’s worms there’s moles . So if ya don’t want moles best to clean up or mulch the fallen leaves”.

Another wet day, so no leaf collecting. Watching football on TV.

Last night went through my seed box and tossed out the packets past their viability.

Wet again, so nothing doing except feed the birds.
So, in between watching football on TV, I've been doing some "housekeeping" of my laptop. Organising the files and deleting stuff I don't need.

Making the most of this gorgeous sunshine and mild temps today. Been busy with a general tidy up.....apples are everywhere!, and have bedded down yet more......Dahlias.....almost done with them now. Will now sort out the ones that I have lifted which have been left drying out in the greenhouse.:like:

Feels like a good amount has be achieved this morning and it's good to tick✓ more things off the To Do list.

Off out visiting friends this afternoon ...and feeling guilt free for once at leaving jobs undone.:D

Had a sun brake today … well … sort of , at least the rain stopped for a few minutes to do the pasture and damage checks and no critters around either above or under the ground.

Checked for any damage from the storm nothing :fingerscrossed: it’s stays that way.

The resident hawks were out hunting. Nice to see them up and flying together. And the hummingbirds along with a few noisy black birds and bluejays.

Fixed the squeaky garage doors with silicone spray. Amazing how quiet they are now. Yikes sometime they screech like chalk on a chalk board.

The pond created by the huge amount of rain from this latest storm in the pasture seems to be drying out a bit , but the landscape is very soggy .

    Bright and sunny and 8c.
    It's laundry day and shopping.

Luckily. there's nothing in the garden that requires any immediate attention. Lots of new buds on the wisterias, lilac, Sambucas and acer palmatums.

The replacement red berry lights, I'd ordered, for the tea-house arrived this afternoon, a week later than promised. The vendor had tried to fob me off with some solar ones instead, but I said I'd wait for the mains ones.

    They are 220-240v to 31v 3.6w. LED.

Made in China of course, but supplied boxed to a Liverpool lighting company.
    I'm quite impressed with them.

I had to put a few more cup hooks in the backs of the soffits in places to support them. It wasn't possible to screw them in by hand. I needed to drill small holes to get the hooks started. I remembered that I'd made the soffits from 12ft by 9 inch hard wood planks, that I'd cut down to 3" to get the upwards curve at the end.
This was in 1987. The cost of that sort of wood has dramatically increased in price over the years. Hard wood is now a ridiculous price.

    Anyway, job done.

They turn on with all the other fairy lights from one of the switches behind the lounge curtains.

They probably won't get used again until over the Christmas holiday. But I know they will be working.
