@Clay_22 , did you know that archeologists have found seeds in thousands of years old Egyptian pyramids and they GROW? I never pay much attention to the 'use by' dates on things.

I have not done much this week. My old dog Freddy got sick this week, and was in a lot of pain. I had to have a friend come put him down yesterday. :(, and since I had two meetings to attend last evening, I did not get him buried until today. He was crying a lot Tuesday night, and yesterday morning and collapsed a few times trying to go on his walk. I sat with him until my friend could get here. It just kills me to have to put my pets down, but he was in terrible shape. He was between 14 and 15, not sure because he was dumped here back in 2012 and about year or two old back then. He was badly abused by those other people, so I am glad I had him all these years.

He was a black lab/dachshund mix.

OMG!! I busted my backside in the garden today. No, I didn't fall down !! :smt044. I ordered 15 (but they sent me one extra) bareroot strawberries and they were to arrive this afternoon and, right on time, they did.

We have two days in a row coming with nights predicted to be 27 and 28°f so, today having a high of 71, it was a perfect day for filling up my two new 3x6' raised beds with soil and planting the strawberry plants in. I also ran over to the feed store to buy a bale of hay in which to cover the little plants up with tomorrow night before the frost comes. I wanted pine straw but they were out of it.

Then I pulled back the hay mulch on 11 of my 12 raised beds ( one I have nothing planted in yet) and fertilized and watered the veg in there, then added more hay to tuck them in all cozy.

After that I was too pooped to pop and took a 30 ninute nap !! :smt005

Took advantage of a nice warm bright & sunny sun-break. Trimming junipers around the front garden’s huge weeping cherry tree. Over the years they have formed intertwined trunks making a nice backdrop for the hostas and black mondo lilies. We got a lot of rain and most areas are extremely soggy and slippery. I’m about 3/4 of the way through and using my battery op hand clippers makes this chore like slicing thru bread. Of course there’s a lot more pruning to do . I hauled like what felt like tons of stuff to the brush fence around the perimeter of the property which has helped tremendously with keeping out the deer and pronghorn from raiding my garden.

I’ve collected a lot of greens, beauty berry and holly branches to donate to my friends who need for making x-mas decorations. We get together every year and make wreaths and donate to the local church sale. I kept another arm load for a winter display for the front entry for wreaths and swags. They last quite awhile outside. Add a few red bows and pinecones , spray white fake snow here and there and it becomes a festive seasonal display.

The next project was to work my way around a massive shrub on the opposite side of the driveway under the other weeping cherry tree. There’s several clumps of miscanthus, barberries , vitex , climbing hydrangeas and winter flowering hellebores to clean up.

After several hours which it felt like but it was only 2 hours it started to mist outside and that was my cue to head back inside. Tomorrow’s another day.. Maybe…

They predict 29°f but I believe it will be colder so I covered everything in the raised beds with hay just before dark. That's all I did today besides look at everything.

It was about 10F when I got up this morning according to my phone. The tv channel said it was 8F. It has been cold and windy and in the 20s today. All I did outdoors was clean up doggy-do and take care of my pets. I did get to run a few errands.

The usual outside checking for critters in the garden and pasture… no sign of above or below ground wildlife. :smt023

I fed my wild birds, and took care of pets.

A friend is supposed to be here tomorrow finally to repair my riding mowers. It is to be 14 overnight, but 50 in the day time. I sure hope so! I can at least mow the pond path after he fixes it.

Nothing.....we are just off out but I hope to get out there later this afternoon as our forecast is dipping tonight and I need to check on some plants and snuggle them down.
The rest of the garden will have to wait as we are out every day this week. Then we have to prepare for going away next week for the holidays.

A bit soggy outside , there’s a pond in the west pasture that’s getting bigger by the day and it’s not supposed to be there. I have hopes that all the holes in the ground from ground squirrels and their buddies all have soggy flooded tunnels .

Western Washington and NW Portland areas are experiencing another atmospheric rain/wind storm . Flooding, landslides and trees downed.

@Daniel W How you doing considering a few residents are land-locked for another few days from non-stop rain?

Had a couple of hours out in the wet, muddy ,soggy mess that we jokingly call...our garden!!!

Decided in the end to dig up the huge Dahlia in the equally huge, heavy pot. I have been asking my dearly beloved to get the sack trolley out and move it for about.... a month now ....and finally got sick of hearing my own voice reminding him. :smt044 So best to dig it up ,dry it out and overwinter it with a few others.
I also ( because of the exact same reason;)) dug up a big non hardy Fuchsia and bedded it down in a smaller pot that was much easier to move, that is snuggled away now too.
I finished off bedding down the remaining few Dahlias that I had to move this year, they had be drying out in the greenhouse.
I did come across some more bulbs that have sprouted very healthy looking green shoots.....no idea what they are:shrug:. The next opportunity I get I will dig a big hole and toss them all it........and then look forward to a surprise Spring display.............or not!!!!:fingerscrossed::snicker:
Nearly came a cropper as I lost my balance while digging in a border but managed, in the most un- ladylike way, to save myself......must delete that from the security camera footage before I forget.

Our temps are dipping to -2 tonight and as it's so very wet it will probably freeze over. We have another weather warning for heavy rain again on Thursday.too.
