They don’t make movies like they did in the past. Some of my favorite noir films most actors are gone and or in their 90’s. Many are on film as a legacy left for future generations.
1953 the cockleshell hero’s, that’s way before my time, they spent the whole time looking for a phone booth.
I was born in 1957 so it would be for me as well, i might have watched it with my dad, he liked the war films and westerns, my mom used to like the old musicals.
My favourite film noir has always been this, since my teens. It's from where my board name comes. Martha Vickers was the best actress in the film. It's been said, "her best scenes ended up on the cutting room floor," as the studio wanted to promote Bacall and were lining up other films with her and Bogart.
What’s your name…? “Riley”… “Doghouse Riley”… somehow it fits . Bogart and Bacall… Tracy and Hepburn… Those were the days…
I'm recording this on Sky Arts at 7.00 pm. It's 59 years old, so a bit dated. But might be worth watching.
I'm watching, 2015 "Go With Me." It's on "We Do TV Movies," a Virgin TV, channel, but it's one of the channels you can't record. It stars Anthony Hopkins and Julia Stiles. It's quite good. I've always liked her since she was in "Bourne films." But since then she's been a bit "under the radar" and not in any noteworthy films, although she's been in two TV series. Though this was on TV a few weeks ago, she made 18 years ago before Bourne.
Mostly I like BBC mysteries, but I've seen most of them once or twice or three times. Currently watching the third installment of Dark Winds, based on the Tony Hillerman series centered on a Navaho reservation police officer solving mysteries. It has a noir feel and a Navaho feel, and a 70s vibe. I love this one. I think I have watched all of the BBC series "Finding Lost Family" and the PBS series "Finding Your Roots" Too much celeb in that last one , and it suffers for it, but I've learned a LOT of history there too. Hoping Dark Horses and Grantchester will have new installments, and soon Binge watching "Hoarders" has helped me clear away a lot of stuff and live a more minimalist life, even though we were never anywhere remotely close to what those people have. I understand the thought processes better now, and the trauma that can lead to hoarding. It's more in the "I'll think about it later" category. The spare room is completely clean now and the pantry is down to minimal supplies too. Gardening can have a bit of a "hoarders" feel sometimes if one isn't careful. So I think about that too.
I recorded Rod Stewart at Glastonbury on BBC1. A big disappointment, as he was off-key for much of the time. A further disappointment was that there was no Katja Rieckermann on Saxophone. She's been present at many of his past concerts, (when his voice was far better).
