Hi all, I haven't been on on a while. Hope everyone is doing okay. Quick question: how many of you still use aprons? I'm thinking of sewing gifts for women attending cancer retreat this summer. I still use aprons, but then again, I bake a lot and and am forever throwing flour about. How about you all, do you use aprons? Thanks. Best wishes to everyone.
Great idea Cayuga… luv luv luv aprons use for cooking , crafting , painting and out in the garden . Most are made of heavy weight material washable . What type are you planning on sewing? There are so many styles , curious what style you have in mind for your sewing project.
We both use aprons when cooking…but also when harvesting veg in the garden. Cayuga—Marvellous to see you, mate.
I thought I'd make a variety so women have a choice. And, yes ones of heavier fabric for the garden or arts projects. I also thought of making some little ones for grandkids. @Pacnorwest I found a pattern on the web that uses a crisscross design: the shoulder straps cross in the back & the apron covers all sides of you. Have you seen this? I also thought I'd add a loop so that you could hang a dish towel or some such rag to wipe messy hands on. What do you think?
I have a light weight cotton apron with a different pattern on the reverse side so you can choose which side to wear out. Mine just loops around the back of my neck, like a yoke. it has ties about an inch wide made of the same material that are long enough to cross in back and then tie in front. I only wear it when I make foods using lots of ingredients needing chopping because I'm messy.
That's a great idea, i use mine when cooking and baking, especially when i do pastry with all of the flour going all over the place.
Fabulous to see you posting again @Cayuga Morning ! Okay, I'm not sure if I'm the right person to answer this. But I'll try anyway, (you please take whatever I say with a grain of salt)... I don't use aprons, nor clothes for that matter, as it's often too hot here, (even with the AC on) . That's why I'm always topless at home, (Homer Simpson style). So whatever accidentally falls on while I'm having fun in the kitchen, does so directly on my skin - Which is damn easy to wash off immediately. Therefore an apron is going to be counterproductive in my particular case. As it's sacrificial in nature, (to save clothes behind it). So it'll be wasted on me. Only exception I make, is a leather apron - Which I put on only when I'm arc welding. As liquid metal splattering on the skin isn't going to be fun, (nor will a blast of high energy ultraviolet light generated during arc welding going to be healthy for my skin). So a face shield and leather apron with leather gloves - Is a must. But while in the kitchen? No, I have no need, nor any use for aprons.
OK, this actually got me thinking, so I searched online, (to see if there's anything a person like me would like) - Ended up finding this below. Because it's plastic, so easy to wash immediately after use. But now I got to thinking, and I hit upon a great idea which anyone can do - Just buy ordinary white (or black) aprons, and use transfer paper and your own link jet or laser pointer to transfer anything you like. I actually made custom t-shirts for myself and my crew at the lemonade stall I once set up at an event, (almost a decade ago now). I just used this very same technique above - So if it works for t-shirts, why not aprons too??? Now as for customized artwork to print on the fabric - We today have so many AI tools available to us for free online. Below is what I just made as an example of what's nowadays possible. https://stablediffusion3.net/app These images below aren't real, they are AI generated by text prompts. So if they can be printed on aprons with the person's name and/or face pic - Than it's going to become such an amazing and memorable item! Technology to the rescue!
