So here we are. How this will develop and eventually turn out, who can say. Today. I at last completed potting up my mixed daffs, (narcissus) bulbs. Weather and personal health, have become, my Boss/Guvnor. Plus in all honesty. I do not stick to the, so often accepted written word. More to come.
My seven new roses arrived yesterday morning. Not feeling too good so they'll have to wait another day to be potted up. Ah, feeling a bit better today, and the outside temp has gone up to 9c.. So all dressed up for an arctic expedition and out I go. All done and dusted.
I never have understood why you Brits say: " all done and dusted". Wouldn't you have to dust it BEFORE you got done?.
Deviating for a moment, from gardening. Oreti my dear friend. Reading your quote, 'Living in hope for world peace and tolerance amongst all fellow beings. I was immediately reminded of why I have always disliked History. Although sneaking back to my long-distant school days. I did manage to attain 78% marks for the subject. My concept of learning, gaining knowledge and for want of a better, hopefully becoming a better member of society. My conclusion is. We haven't learned from our mistakes So my studies are now into, natural history. Flora & Fauna and pathology. Will we ever witness Oreti's desires and wishes. The future holds the answer.
I feel that perhaps I should offer some sort of an apology to my friends here on Garden Stew. Sorry one and all that I tend to ramble on at times. I have always loved learning, studying etc. Also good conversations and debates and all that. Forgive me but, I don't know it all. Far from it. I do however learn so much from the comments of YOU my friends. For instance. Great, so you love roses. Well done, you have some fab specimens. So my friend. Please let us all in on your secrets of rose growing. Your problems perhaps encountered due to your location etc.. For instance. Here in the UK. I live in a council property. Believe me. With todays living costs etc. No way could I have afforded a complete new roof etc. and other repairs. Please widen out if possible how and what YOU do, so as to grow YOUR ROSES. Sincere best wishes. Mike.
No worries Mike, in the UK our roses are in the ground and some do get black spot in late summer. Don't spray them and i don't get the fallen leaves up. It doesn't seem to affect the plants at all. Hubby has started to do the spring pruning and later in march i will feed them and mulch them, i don't water them and they do fine.
Hi Logan. Many thanks for your reply. Probably by many, I am something of a renegade. Why? Basically my comments are scientifically based. On the other hand. I so often fail somewhat in supporting the scientific bit. OK. Perhaps like the salesman. Whose objective is to sell/flog you the product, but at the same time, letting slip. I don't always go along with the gumph. In short. Flora and fauna have been managing quite well since the beginning of time. Along comes the academic/scientist. Ah, says he. If it doesn't exist! I will invent it. The seed is sown. This man is a scientist. Trust him. So the saga is born, and continues to this very day. Over time. We have tried and tested countless idea etc. Here in the plant world we have bred, cross bred etc countless cultivars/species etc. OOPS! innocently, we have got our genetics wrong. Our new plant has some quirky problems. Sad to say. This also shows up with side effects in medicine. In conclusion, Plants belong out there in the open. I.M.O there is no such thing as a house plant. Overall. In this case. Plant your rose or whatever,,,if possible, in the open ground, let nature play it's part. Then if need be. Perhaps a bit of TLC
