Last night - sunset JAN. 20, 2026 Slowly the moon - appearing thru the clouds. Faintly framing the city lights far below the mountain. Just changing view to the west as the sun fades out thru the horizon.
This is from a few days ago, as I was driving back towards home - Sunset over a concrete jungle. And this is from when I was in the parking lot, shopping for groceries. No clouds here at all, as it's winter, (allegedly winter that is). So it's actually perfect for astronomy. Which is exactly what I loved doing when I was growing up. But now there's so much light pollution here at SeaView Beach of Karachi. You're so lucky, to not have your views ruined by shameless commercialization from horizon to horizon. Just across that big yellow M eyesore, is the beach. But does anyone get to see it anymore??? I remember a time when nobody use to be around over here. And the sky was full of glittering stars, while in front was the sparkling sea.

This is my skyline now in comparison, (took the picture today when I was returning back home). As you guys can see, there's now way too much new tall buildings going up at the promenade. Which I guess is a good thing, as it's a sign that the city and the country's economy is doing great. Picture below I took some time ago, which I've already shared on GardenStew before. Some people like this, as they say it's the charm of living in a mega metropolis. Where each city has it's own unique personality - I too sometimes can't complain, as in Karachi I can get just about anything, (don't need to go anywhere). As this city is the industrial and commerce capital. But at the same time I do also feel sad too. As I remember from my childhood, how all of this was in the early 80s. Untouched by construction, all natural. I also feel privileged, that I've at least played here, when it was exactly like how it was a thousand years ago, (when my ancestors came here as part of the Arabian army, seeking revenge for what the Hindu ruler of this area did to 2 of their woman) - Kids playing on the same beach now, will never know what I've experienced. @Pacnorwest , you're truly lucky, that your environment is still preserved in it's natural state. For future generations to enjoy.
Yes life and progress go on and change , but clouds and sunsets continue to dazzle and remain a constant in our lives. Beautiful pictures.
