Sad to learn that Chris Rea has died after a long illness.

I bought the album from where this single I have came, on its release.

Music in different forms appeals to many people of different ages.
There's been a revival of interest in vinyl albums.

On a music board, obviously a younger contributor asked the question.
"Have you ever bought the album of a CD already you have?"

Some of us replied in this vein.

"No, but we have bought the CD of the album we've had for decades."

This particularly relates to vintage jazz albums.

These are just two of the albums I bought in my teens, in the late fifties.
These became delisted, but with the advent of CDs, many classic de-listed albums became available again, in the "new" format.

Here's a couple I bought a few decades ago. The CDs saved more wear on some of my favourite albums.

You can't get better backing than these.

Roy Eldridge - Trumpet, Coleman Hawkins - Tenor Sax, Johnny Guarnieri - Piano, Barry Galbraith - Guitar, Milt Hinton - Bass, Cozy Cole - Drums

    Uploaded to YouTube in 2010.
It's had over one and a half billion hits.

I guess it led to the revival in the interest in the ukulele, particularly amongst young people, as they could be bought for not a lot of money. Sadly, the interest declined over the years, much like that of the hula-hoop.

This is from a pilot for a TV series which was never taken up. I'm not surprised, but its presentation is typical of 1959, so seems dated as a lot of it is just staged.

There's some famous jazz musicians featured, including my favourite jazz guitarist, Barry Galbraith.

I've watched this several times in the last decade or so. I was always impressed by the singer Carol Stevens, who appears half-way through the video, she did not have much of a career, due to poor management and bad luck.
As in those days, it wasn't unusual, she has a last drag on a cigarette before she starts singing!
    (She could have been high).
She only made one album, which was critically acclaimed, but didn't sell that well, probably because she was more of a scat singer than a conventional one.
Anyway, it had a bit of a revival, so a CD became available, some on eBay and as they were cheap I've ordered one.

    The full programme is here.
