DD took these pics, probably a better quality: Copper Louisiana Iris, straight from the swamp. Yellow La. Iris: Two Shrimp Plants, and a Persian Shield: Persian Shield close up, love that color:
Those are more gorgeous flowers. I have seen the Persian Shield around....I love purple plants....guess I should buy one or two shouldn't I?
I insist that you buy a few Toni. I am putting it in a container with chartreuse coleus and blue torenia. And something yellow and trailing.
Kat, I got it at a little local garden center, but I am sure you can find them anywhere, WalMart had them last year, but not quite this early.
I had 2 of those last year Sharon I enjoyed them so much.I to love the color.I think those Swamp Irises are just wonderful.
Yes Glenda I dug some of those Irises with my own little hands the Swamp are beautiful this time of year .
Those are beautiful blooms Sharon. Nothing that nice grows in the swamps around here! Love the color of that Persian Shield too.
Oh how I wish I could find some of those swamp iris growing wild and in need of transplantation!!! I love the colour!!! I wonder if I could grow Persian Shield indoors over here? :-?
Persian Shield - what a beautiful purple color. I love the Copper Iris - another beautiful color. Once again I am only enjoying the color white in my yard so yours are especially great to see.
Wonderful pretties! That copper Iris is really something! Good huntin' and gatherin', Richard. I'm a huge fan of Persian shield (Strobilanthes dyerianus), too. I've grown it in my garden beds for several years, as well as in some mixed containers. It's been pretty reliably hardy for me, but it's a slow starter, it wants the ground temps to come well up before it starts to grow. Last year I had some growing next to Celosia spicata, it was a comination that I really liked.
Does the Persian Shield come back for you ZZP? I am going to try to root some from cutting this fall.
I love Persian Shield and couldn't get through a summer without it! Shrimp plant is one of the first plants I bought with my own money as a kid and will always be dear to me. 8)
