The weather this winter has been the craziest that I can remember. Very little snow here(that's great)record warm temps in Feb, into the 60's one day and snow flurries the next morning. The one good thing is that I haven't had to pull the snow blower out of the garage all winter, knock on wood, am tapping my head!
It's the same here, Capt. We've used the blower once, and that was three-four days ago. At least we've had frosts this winter, lots of them. Last winter was so mild the grass grew in mid-January.
Definitely an odd year. This weather is coming to early. And the East winds are here about 2 months before they normally come. Sure hope the winter wheat crops do good. They need a hard freeze to really do well.
I'm moving!! Our snowiest winter on record is a little over 76 inches. We are now somewhere between 72 and 74 inches. It's only the 7th of Feb. I can't imagine how people in the snow belts stand this. I guess it's all what you are used to, but I need a vacation!
I can relate. This winter here started out like it should. Snow in november, hard freeze in nov. and dec. then nothing. no snow, some rain. the fjørd froze earlier this yr than normal tho. we got snow finally but already its raining. its 3C here or like high 30's or low 40's. it should be around -3 to -10 C. this time of yr. or in F. thats low 20's to 0. I'm starting to get worried. We've had 2 major storms here that would be in the class of tropical storm almost hurricane. that shouldn't happen for another month an half to 2 months. All i can say is we got to wait an see what spring brings. We should have snow that is chest high by now,, but its about knee high. not good.
Our weather is being controlled by La Nina this year, warmer and dry. Longrange forecast is for warm and dry to last well into spring. Whoopeeee, we got out of a 10 year drought just in time for another one to begin.
We have had some strange wether as well. Yesterday and last night we had between 12 & 14 inches with winds. We have a mess today so I am still home from work. May go in this afternoon if my husband finishes clearing the driveway of it's 3 foot drifts.
Polly ya'll really do have a mess.I'm so glad we only get a little bit of bad weather but of course we have bugs galore here because of not much cold.
We've had a strange winter in Ontario too. This week we had our 3rd meltdown (we usually have 1) and last night a few feet of unexpected snow. The ground will be good and wet after the next melt down, that's for sure. I almost dare not say it, but we haven't had our usual week of -30°'s yet either.
Gosh Captain Kirk it seems like we will also be in for a dry winterspell. El Nino is really doing all of us or is the El Nino effect enhanced by global warming? I am just afraid that I will have to stare down the barrel of a water resrictions gun again.
Dryness isn't the problem here, so far. We are like 6 or 8 inches above normal for percipitaion for the year and this is only Feb. Our wet season starts in March and April.
I've been hearing that also, warm one day and snow the next. Our winter here has been pretty normal for once...a little rain, a little snow, a little wind. Temps have been pretty normal too. No surprises weather-wise, which is nice!
