For years I nursed along (and after a decade started tossing) a purple miniature bearded iris a friend had given me. Although I am rather ambivalent about regular iris I find the minis adorable. I'd love to have a garden of minis.

Two years ago I bought my first new minis. Some have begun to multiple. Others I am not sure like it here. They are on the borderline of surviving. It is interesting seeing the differences in growth of the different varieties. I think I will be moving them after they bloom ... to what I hope will be a better micro environment in the yard.

I like the minis too :p It looks like we have the same ones :D I have one that hasn't opened yet and I'm hopeful that it will be different from the rest.

One of my egg customers has one mini Iris. I love it so much. I have not seen them in the stores though I haven't looked very hard. I really, really like all the mini bulbs. I now have tons of mini daffodils.

I don't recall ever seeing mini Irises. Your's are so pretty.
I have some TALL Irises a coworker gave me. Pretty flowers but they kinda loom over some of the other stuff. I think I'll be thinning them from one of the smaller beds.

I like the minis too. They tend to bloom earlier & never need staking, a definite plus.

Jewell, I particularly like the first three of your mini irises. I think I have one like your pale yellow in my garden. I team it will pale yellow primroses which bloom at the same time. I have a deep purple too that I have teamed with a lighter lavender ground phlox. Very pretty together.

I found a photo from last year of the deep purple. Seeing it now I realize it is taller than your minis. I think it grows maybe 8". The taller iris leaf swords next to the purple are from a different iris.

BTW, how would your iris in the last photo, the yellow & brown one go with the red of your bricks?

Stratsmom, glad you are enjoying your minis. You will have to share photos.

Barb, I love the mini Daffs. Lucky you. I ordered my mini iris (except for the purple ones that were shared). It was a very extravagant purchase for me.

    Thanks Netty, Carolyn and Tina.

Cherylad, I had a few of a tall variety until last year when I redid their bed. Glad you enjoy yours. They are so pretty this time of year.

Cayuga Morning, your purple ones look just like mine. Your ground phlox looks so lovely. Mine didn't make it through the winter. I like the idea of the pale primroses with the yellow iris. If you have anymore photos be sure and share

    Eileen, don't look here
http://www.schreinersgardens.com/?gclid=CN6d8q72jr4CFZRcfgod70cAjQ. They ship everywhere. It might be dangerous to your pocketbook.

The bad news is some of my little beauties were susceptible to rot. We had very heavy rains in February, March and April. We had standing water where we had never had it before. I pulled, cleaned and sanitized a couple of the plants and replanted in dry potting soil. I'll keep them indoors for a few weeks to be able to keep them throughly dry and do a few silent prayers for their recovery. Most are doing very well though and I am looking forward to moving all of them to the patio in front yard.

One last variety, Lady in Red

Jewell---I have a question for you. Are irises in the northwest bothered by the iris borer? In New England, iris borer is a real problem & a constant battle. I have not yet had a problem with them going after my mini irises.

CM, we are lucky. Borers aren't a problem here. Guess it is the weather. Too cool in the summer. Slugs and rot....another story.

Don't have to worry about heart worms for pets either because our night temperatures are always in the 50-60s F in the warmest months.
