As I was making out my weekly menus, it struck me that I was making choices about what to have, while so many people are trying to figure out IF they can feed their families. For those of us who have vegetable gardens or fruit trees, can we share? Gardening season has arrived, or is on the horizon. We always plant too much (not out of altruism, just that I have no control!). The extras go to the local food pantry, which can accept donations from private gardens. If you have an outlet for extras (food pantry, local church with an elderly or poor congregation, senior citizen center, for example) please consider donating what you can spare. Thank you for listening to my plea.
Yes i can give some of my red and white currants, always have too much. There's a neighbour who helps out with a food bank locally.
Great idea . We always have signs up around several fruit and food farms that post a sign ..You pick you keep free Pickens…
I like that saying @Pacnorwest This is a lovely MG. It comes with the terrirtory for those of us lucky enough to have bounty to share. Growing feels good. Feeding your family feels good. Sharing when you can feels even better.
What a group of kind, sharing people here on the Stew! I thank you all, but not nearly as much as those who will receive your bounty and be so very grateful.
I bring extras to the clinic where I volunteer. There's often something extra in my garden. The clinic serves people who are on the edges of life, barely getting by. I also take clothes there, when there is something good that I don't want.
