Hi Folks, I haven't been here much because as the warm weather arrived I have been so busy with so many different kind of things I can't remember everything. I can tell you I went to our areas farmers market yesterday. We got chicken breasts, boned and skinned for under $2.00 a pound, and brussel sprouts at $2.00 for 10 pounds and also potatoes, hot peppers and a few other things. My sister came to visit and we went garage sales for 3 full days. When it came to Tuesday morning and the hubby went to work, I looked around and couldn't believe the work I had to do. I should be done by Friday. Barb in Pa.
Sounds like you've been having fun! I love farmers markets ... the one in my town doesn't start until July.
Okay, fun's over, back to work! You certainly had a great time with your sister at the garage sales, and also at the Farmers' Market. Wish we had a Farmers' Market here--all we have are farmers! Ten pounds of Brussel sprouts? What are you going to do with all those sprouts?
Ah! They are already blanched and let out to dry and then put into sandwich baggies, 2 cups each. I got almost 50 cups of them. This market also has a meat auction off the back of a freezer truck straight from the butcher. I love to go and I bring a couple of large coolers and make sure my freezers have plenty of open space. I canned chicken last time cause I got so much. Barb in Pa.
Cool Barb. Sounds like you had a really rewarding adventure with your sister. great buy on the chicken, too. I can't hardly believe you got 10#'s of B.Sprouts for $2.00. I surely couldn't grow them for $2.00. That was a real bargain.
Yes! re: brussel sprouts. Now they could have been eaten up inside with bugs or something but I said for two bucks I would take a chance. I only through 1 (ONE) away because it looked funny. All the outside leaves that I pealed off the chickens ate and loved it. I have half the potatoes canned in quarts so far and will get the rest finished tomorrow (in 95 degrees). I will get 28 quarts out of them for my one dollar. It was a very profitable weekend. Plus we sold 4 chickens and 3 button quail. The quail are the ones I raised in the kitchen many months ago. They are just beginning to lay eggs right now. I get one so far and through it in the incubator. Barb in Pa.
Yes I did well recently. You should hear about my sisters rewards from garage sales. All the people that don't know what they are selling. She is a very lucky woman. Barb in Pa.
What a week. I am all done now. all cleaned All cleaned up pickled janapeno peppers sweet and white potatoes pantry is waiting for the new stored food I was busy for 3 and half days canning this week. Bet the hubby wants to go out and look for more farmers markets tomorrow! He loves all of this. Barb in Pa.
