I am new to hostas and some are a bit easy to determine their size and some they sell are such small starts they are hard to determine the size. This little gem I got at the Master Gardener's Sale for $2 a piece. When I got it home it appeared to have mold on it so I planted it in a separate area away from the other hostas. I decided to remove all the leaves. It releafed itself with no disease problems. With what appears to be 7 different growth areas and its very small stature I am now wondering if it might be one of the mini hostas. It is about 4" or 10cm tall. Or is it just because I stripped the leaves and the regret small?

Thanks for any ideas/help in advance

I am not sure since they are new to me too. However, I have fallen head over heels in love with them!! :smt055
    Wish I had more shade!

Jewell, it is a very pretty little hosta, and quite healthy looking too. I am guessing it is smaller than it is eventually going to be because of having to put out 2 sets of leaves. The hostas I have that get grazed down to the ground by deer throw out another set of leaves but they are smaller & shorter than the original set. You may have to wait till next year for find out the actual size of your hosta.

Thanks CM, that makes perfect sense. I got another at the same sale that looks about twice as big with a very similar leaf. Still a smaller hosta, but not a mini. It really threw me with it having so many growing points.

Stratsmom, good luck with your hostas. Guess you will have to plant more trees :D to get the shade for hostas :?: ;)

Toni, that is just cruel during the growing season :D :D I'll keep that database in mind while the hostas are sleeping and I can't wait for them to emerge though :D
