What are sugar peas? We have peas but I think you may refer to them as a bean. We have purple hull peas,,similar to blackeye peas. Are sugar peas different ? Did you know that blue lake green beans are available as a top crop ? I am trying them this year.
That would make me very happy too! I have Sugar Snap peas up too, but it's been much too cold for beans.
@mart Sugar Snow Peas are a heirloom that are delectable super sweet stringless pods produce tremendous yields on the 5’ vines. Also I did not know that about the blue lake
I will have to try those. Seems like I did a few years back but they didn`t like Texas summers. Maybe I can get some in early next year. I didn`t know about the top crop either til this year. I am trying them. Will sure be easier picking. All my purple hull peas are top crop.
Folks will correct me if I am wrong, but the Sugar Snap Peas require a very early Spring start. They don't like the heat at all, let alone in Texas. My seed packages always recommended adding inoculant. The specific strain of bacteria in powdered form helps the peas fix nitrogen from the air and produce a better crop. I guess this is especially useful if you haven't grown legumes in that bed before. Seems like the cooler weather has extended the pea season a bit. I hear the Summer is going to be hot though!
Yes,, I know but in Texas we do not have 4 seasons. We have summer and winter. That was my point ! Thats why the sugar snaps didn`t like it.
Mart, I will start to get better at chatroom humor as time goes on, hopefully. Sorry the snaps are climate-prohibited.
LOL ! In Texas we wonder if we even have a climate. By the time we figure out which one we are in,,it changes.
