Big bird at the pond

    There's a new bird hanging around the pond. He's pretty big as you can see by the heron that passes him. I do not have a clue what type a bird he is but thought you might like to see him.
    I'll try to get a photo of him out of the pond, so you can see how tall he really is.

    Daph I think he may be a great Blue Heron. The name suggests that they are blue I know but they are actually pale grey to buff coloured. However, I'm not 100% sure of my ID so I hope that someone else can tell us for sure what he is.

    He looks like a Blue Heron to me too Eileen. I love to watch them in flight...they are so graceful!

    It's lovely! We've got herons looking a lot like that around here. They're really big birds, and noisy too.

    Yes that is a great blue heron, the other is a little blue heron.

    I think that might be a great blue also. We have one that hangs around here for a week or so in the fall, then leaves. Massive birds in flight, and just as big when their just standing. It sure looks like the one that hangs around here.
