Whenever it snows, the birds flock to the feeders.
I made some pinecone feeders with peanutbutter & bird seed. I had fun watching them try and land on the pinecone. Some birds had an easier time of it than others.

This persistent little Junco finally figured out how to landed on the pinecone, but I missed the shot.

UPDATE: Here he is on another day, having mastered the pinecone! If at first, you don't succeed...try, try, try again! :D

Excellent photographs Gail. I'm pleased the Junco managed to work out how to get at the food eventually.

Really nice fotos, Gail...I enjoyed these no end, especially the female cardinal. I don't know why excactly...but I have always found this bird so particularly attractive. I think that it has something to do with it's "coat"...its markings. The at first seem simple and uninteresting, but if one can see them up close, further inspectiion reveals a very special and delicate mix of colours.
Anyway...I liked all of them, their anrics and the variety. Thanks.

Beautiful, just beautiful. My favorite is the waiting in the wings - all puffed up in their down coats! the series of the junco is great. He is a persistent little guy. I'm glad it paid off for him!

Wonderful photos Gail. I love to watch the birds in the snow too, especially the Cardinals. They are a rare treat to watch here.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I added some photos of the Junco after he mastered the pinecone. I have such fun watching and photographing the birds from the warmth of my kitchen!

Sjoerd, I agree with you. The males dominate the landscape with their bold presence but upclose the females are more intriguing with their unique coloring and features. Funny how nature imitates life ;) .

You put a broad grin on my face with these photos. :D I love the small birds, and feed them during winter, but keeping our tomcat away from them is really hard work. Your friends are so colourful, better than any Christmas decor I've seen.

Heh heh heh....clever wording, Gail; but, I agree 100%.
I like things like this in life in general and look for them. It is pleasant to discover what surprizes await one who is prepared to spend the time and effort to look closer.
Your duck blind looks quite comfy. Where do you set your coffee cup? ;)
You really do have a good viewing area there.
