My father used to have a small putting green in the garden, nothing spectacular, but it allowed myself and my friends to play the game on the reasonably large area of grass, moving round the garden in a square, the holes numbering about seven. :)

Now, though, with the lawn in my garden not exactly suitable for a game of lawn bowls, it could possibly have a 'strip' prepared for playing a game of boules, which is a variant of this game. :D

Has anyone played this game ?

PS. Apparently, Francis Drake insisted on finishing his game of bowls/boules, before engaging in a battle. So, there's the military connection for the proposed theme in the garden design that I'm working on. ;)

I don't think I have played Boules exactly C.J but I have played a variation and it was very entertaining. I love any type of game that is played on a lawn in a garden. I think they are both fun and relaxing. In Sweden they play a great game called Kubb, which involves two teams trying to knock their opponent's Kubbs by tossing their batons. It's very entertaining and competitive.

Not sure I've heard of Kubb before. I'll have a look around and get details. :)

Boules - I'm of the thinking it was developed in France as a variant of lawn bowls, but the ground is usually 'dusty'(sandy?) and the method of playing involves the backhand 'throwing' of the boules :? Definitely different, but also sounds like the ground doesn't have to be absolutely, without question, totally, spot-on, even :D

I throw tantrums quite well, so maybe I'll be not bad at playing that game too :D
