I was inspecting a set of bell windchimes the other day and I thought that I could make my own with clay pots. It was so easy and they sound great! I used hemp cord, large wooden beads and wooden car wheels. I was able to get everything, including pots of extremely small sizes at the craft store. I left these au naturel but I do think I will try painting the next ones and maybe creating a pretty glass bead for the "dangler".
Do the wonders of clay pots never cease? This idea would never have crossed my mind Anna, very clever. I bet they do sound great as well. I wouldn't have thought it would be easy to get your hands on wooden car wheels, where do you get them from?
Frank, I got them from the wood section of the craft store...they had all kinds of wooden stuff in bags for various crafting applications. My package had about 10 wheels I think.
Yeah...we get hurricanes and severe thunderstorms during the summer...I did put it up while we were getting a tropical storm and they did OK. I don't think they'd survive a hurricane though!
What a great idea! I think I will make this also. Paint the pots blue I think. Really good cute idea. 8)
I was thinking of using a rubber stamp and permanent ink and stamping leaves on them....or using one of those metallic pens and making a scroll design all over.
When I made mine I used patio paint (indoor/outdoor paint). When hanging them I used fishing line and made sure they didn't touch each other using plastic beads. Yes I had to bring mine in when the hurricanes came a few years ago.
Glendann, I am sure the patio paint would look amazing! I was going to use patio paint, but I really liked the terra cotta, but now I think they look a little plain. I think I am going to get one of thos patio paint pens and do a little design on them. Well, some creature has been messing with them....yesterday morning the tiny bottom pot was broken on one set and this morning the tiny pot is broken on the other set...these are pots that don't even really touch the upper pots. I can't think of why else they would be broken....I'm guessing raccoons.....Grrrrr.
My husband whacked them the other day while brushing the pool...surprisingly they didn't break...I'd take them down during a hurricane, though....BUT they've already survived several severe thunderstorms.
