Have been hitting the web pretty heavy lately, looking for the new colors of cone flowers. Since I will be moving very soon and will finally be able to have a garden once again, I am very excited with all the beautiful new colors! The 'green jewel' looks interesting, although I hope it's prettier than the 'green envy' I planted at my sons' house last year! I LOVE the doubles (pink, coconut lime and meringue)! Can hardly wait to 'dig in the dirt'!
Funny you should mention the different colors of Coneflowers, the newest issue of Horticulture magazine has an article about them. 'Sunrise' is a pale yellow 'Harvest Moon' is a gold aging to creamy yellow 'Sundown' has orange petals with raspberry undersides that fade to orange-pink 'Twilight' is rose and orange 'After Midnight' has magenta petals and dark red cones.......this one I really want to find 'Summer Sky' is a blend of pale orange and dark pink 'Mango Meadowbrite' is orange fading to bright yellow 'Pixie Meadowbrite' is purple 'Fancy Frills' is medium pink 'Lilliput' is vivid pink 'Merlot' is magenta-purple 'Tiki Torch' is golden orange Plus several other types and colors being introduced next year.
hello... i have seen this flower in pink hues (now i learned it';s called coneflower) somewhere in a block yard in my neighborhood... and was thinking whether it is a perennial - as there was just one bush and pretty big for an annual. I will visit the place once in a while to see if it has any ripe seeds to collect Calin
Last year I planted a cream coneflower for a customer. Also I like orange coneflowers. Cherry Fluff Coneflowers have creamy pink blooms with flecks of cherry red.
I only have luck with the pink ones...all of the other ones are fine for a year or two and then they die or disappear. I am in Wisconsin and our winters can get very cold, not sure if it is that or the chipmunks that were around.
Sherry8, A lady here had pink coneflowers planted on her driveway side of the house, They only lasted for a few years. They were shorter in height as the years advanced. Could this be because they were in shade?
