Our youngest (15 this year) did her confirmation rite on May 7th. This is a big happening in Norway. The youngsters attend evening classes. The church confirmation is all about learning the Bible and the church rites. Other confirmation classes are about society in general. The courses all end with a big ceremony. Not too many years ago (50ish plus a bit) this marked the transition from child to grown-up. Now you could wear long trousers and other grown-up clothes, quit school and get a job.

Before that (100ish years ago and more) you had to pass your confirmation test in order to vote, work and get married. This ceremony was a very important part of everybody's lives.

These days it's tradition and most youngsters attend some sort of evening class and participate in a ceremony. Afterwards we have a big party with family and sometimes friends too. The youngsters get a lot of presents, mostly money but also silverware and jewelry.

I'd like to show you some photos from our very special day:

Everything is beautiful...especially your daughter, she looks a lot like you. And Truls appears to be loving showing off. I love the special present with the horse and rider etching.
Seems like just yesterday that she was a little girl showing off her craftiness and now she is almost all grown up. Boy, time flies when it comes to kids doesn't it?

Such wonderful photographs of your daughter's confirmation Droopy. My favourite one has to be the last one. Just look at the expression on Trul's face - he's as proud as punch isn't he to be carrying such a beautiful young woman? Our children grow up so quickly that's it's good to have such precious memories preserved with our cameras so that we can relive them time and time again.
The eiders obviously didn't want to be left out of the celebrations either. They were probably hoping for a free hand out. ;)

They do grow up fast. Our grandson is having confirmation on May 15th. There will be a dinner and a party after it. He'll be 14 in July and entering high school in the fall. His older brother is now 18 and will be entering university in the fall. dooley

    Those are some excellent piccies.
That daughter of yours looks like a princess on Truls.
You guys had quite a do, didn't you.
...and all those sweets on the table--wouldn't I have just loved digging into those!
It all looked so special and festive. You folks know how to throw a party. Did they serve Turkish food in that restaurant?...or was it a more formal venue?

Well your pictorial really gives a good idea of the event.

    Congratulations with your daughter's confirmation.

Yes, they do grow up fast. Fortunately she's set on being a kid for a few more years since she's going to be grown-up for a veeery long time! I applaud her thinking. :snicker:

Truls behaved well. I think he understood that this was something special, and he does look proud in that photo.

dooley, good luck with your grandson's confirmation.

Sjoerd, we had a buffet dinner. Chicken, steak, salmon and all the trimmings. Then we had coffee and cakes. We could have done with a few Stewbies to help devour those cakes.
