The large Cooper's Hawk visited my bird pergola looking for a snack..I was glad he left empty beaked...
I am learning to appreciate them more now that I know he will be a regular at the pergola..they are so beautiful and the cycle of life goes on....
The other birds know when there is one in the vacinity. It's kind of eerie when all the bird chatter suddenly stops and they all disappear, then you look up and watch the Hawk doing slow circles overhead. Some of the little Momma birds are fiesty too. I watched three of them chasing a Hawk away from the neighborhood one day. The Hawk must not have been very hungry, he just slowly circled around then flew off.
We have sparrowhawks that visit the garden on a regular basis and the female looks a lot like your hawk Sherry. I've grown to accept them being around even if they do take some of the smaller birds now and again. They are such impressive looking birds.
I get an occasional red tail to perch on the phone lines that run through my yard. I know he's waiting for a squirrel, bunny, chipmunk or mouse to run out of hiding. I also get sharp shinned, very similar to the coopers, zip through and grab a bird from my feeder.
Great shots...looks like he's ready to feed on the birds who are feeding at your feeder! Look out morning doves.
He looks quite at home there. heh heh heh. What a noble-looking bird. Thank you for more pics of this interesting bird.
They are such lovely birds, and efficient too. We get hawks around the stables, and eagles across the fjord. I love to watch them.
