Does anyone have any ideas on how I could use some costume jewelry as Christmas ornaments. When my mother passed away a year ago I kept several pieces of her jewelry thinking I could make soemthing with it. I found it again yesterday while searching for something else and started thinking about maybe ornaments for family embers. Any ideas??

Any chance you could post a picture of the jewelry Polly? It might give us a better idea of what you could do with them if we actually saw the individual pieces. :-D

You might be able to make some of these ornament hooks and use them with the jewelry....depending on what the jewelry is. Or use these hook ideas for ways to wrap the silver or copper wire around the piece to make the ornament.

Thanks Toni - I may be able to get my husband to make me some hooks similar to those pictured.

Polly, I just love your idea of making family keepsakes from some your mom's jewelry.
I once saw a charming wall-hung Christmas tree decorated entirely with costume jewelry.

The piece was backed with a piece of thin plywood,
cut into the shape of a simple tree,
it was padded with batting and neatly covered with green felt.

It was decorated with everything from brooches to earrings,
necklaces and bracelets, which were simply pinned or stitched onto the felt.

The one I saw was fairly large, perhaps 18 to 24 inches tall.
Perhaps (depending on what you have to work with)
you might translate it into smaller pieces?

Keep in mind, Polly, some vintage costume jewelry is quite valuable indeed. When Laura and I ran our antique business, we were always amazed to see how much some items were worth. It always sold quite well.
