Never seen anything like that in my part of the world. But they sure do look like the type of flowers which are full of nectar. So I assume they will attract a lot of humming birds and honey bees.

Your crocosmia are putting on a wonderful show Philip. Mine didn't come to much this year for some reason so it's good to see yours thriving so well.

At least you also don't have any snakes in Ireland either - Which believe me, is a real blessing! Take it from me, as I always have to watch my step every time I walk into any patch of greenery (looking out for poisonous snakes and scorpions)...

I guess this explains why I am so much into rooftop gardening.

i had the same response from Eileen,..her Crosmia were not up to par this year either,..but last year mine were very sparse in blooming,..at present my best show of blooms are the ones i potted in comparison to the garden plants.

    Hi S-H,
we have the reputation in Ireland for having no snakes,..Saint Patrick was supposed to have banished them from Ireland,..and this is written in most books,..however if Saint Patrick did in fact perform this fete,..he slipped up badly,..perhaps poor eyesight,lol,..as he missed out on the small pencil sized grass snakes we still have to this day.

I am very happy not to have many harmful creatures wandering around in the grass here,..it must be an every day thought when you are in tall grass or shrub where you live,..one bite,..and it could be finishing time.

I've never seen the chocolate one Philip would would love to have them in my garden as I do like crocosmia - even although they can be quite invasive.
Strangely enough my Montbretia Lucifer did exceptionally well this year, growing taller than ever before and producing lots of its scarlet flowers. :-?

    Hi Eileen,
oh i like those Montbretia Lucifer,..i might have a look for some for next year,..they have a more fuller bloom than Crocosmia,..yet look similar,..on the subject of the Chocolate Crocosmia,..i had a brief look on the internet,..and found nothing,..that's interesting,..there were yellows and orange also reds,..so i must have a drive to where i came across the Chocolate ones,..alongside a river of course.

Typically the Crocosmia do very well here. They have actually taken over the bed in the front of the house where my Mom used to have nothing but Daylilies. But this year... only a few of them bloom.
Funny... last year I was cussing because there was so many of them, and this year... I missed seeing them.

    Hi Cheryl,
it seems they are finicky about blooming regular like every year,..this was or still is my best year for seeing them in full bloom,..i will be collecting all those still not in pots,..and potting them in large containers as some are spread out not allowing me to have room for other planting.

    Hi Deanna,
sorry to read you cannot grow them,..is it due to dry soil?,..i know you have huge Hollyhocks.
