The native ruellia (aka Mexican petunia, Ruellia brittoniana) is in full flower now. We have it in the yard, in the barn lot, in the pasture, and it has even invaded flower beds. It is a welcome invader. We also have the tall hybridized version, which spreads also.

First one I planted years ago was the tall version, then I found the clumping ones and the trailing ones...the trailing one didn't come back last Spring but the tall ones are everywhere. I love them!!!! From one small 8" pot about 9 years ago I now have 6 large patches of them front and back and need to do some splitting and transplanting this fall. Ruellia brittoniana (Mexican Petunia)
