I actually came to GardenStew to ask this particular question. I have two of these plants. I am not sure if they are also called Corn plants or Dracaena Deremennsis lemon Lime, or something else. The coloring of the leaves on mine are different from the ones I see in the corn plant images. In a different order. So, that is why I am not sure. Anyway, I have a mature one that I have had for a long time now that just in the last couple of years I really began to take care of it, so it is a little behind. And then at the store a couple of months ago I bought a pot that had four different baby plants inside. One of them was another one of these. Same coloring in the leaves in the same order. I thought it would be nice to have another one that I took care of as a baby because I can't remember where I even got my other one. I just know that I've had it for over 10 years now. I took all the baby plants out, separated them, and put them into their own pots. I might have put this one into a pot slightly too big for it, but I thought it should still be fine. The other baby plants began taking off and growing. But this little guy refuses to grow. Honestly, even though I had the other one for a while I don't know very much about them at all. The baby that isn't doing well has only two leaves and one beginning to come up in the middle. There was another leaf before one of the side ones that turned brown, and I eventually took it off. Now the one that took its place is doing the same thing. It begins to get brown from the tip and then keep going back until the whole leaf is brown. The other leaf on the other side is now doing the same thing. It only has one stem that is approximately 7 inches tall and not the best looking one. It is beginning to turn yellow brown beginning at the soil level. I am afraid it either already dead or it is on its last days. I really would like another one of these that I took care of from the beginning unlike the other one that was already a mature plant when I got it. I baby my plants now and am very much into my houseplants and outdoor plants. I love them! Does anyone know what I can do to save this plant if it is still alive? Let me tell you how I take care of it. I had it in a group of plants in front of a window that had only indirect lighting. I put them together for humidity reasons. I live in the Mojave Desert, and it can be dry. Because my plants began suffering last winter, I got some artificial lights for them and kept one there just in case. The other plants still seem to do better with the extra light. All the other plants there are great. I watered it when it felt dry on top at least an inch. It has new soil, so I haven't fed it yet. (I don't think) Thx
Dracaena the smaller one looks like too much water. The roots like to dry out a bit before watering sessions and don’t like to sit in water. Be sure to empty the water catcher dish after watering. They do like warm temps and indirect sun which is a window setting as it is shown. In winters here in the PNW it sits in a cold dreary area and not enough sunlight, and gets a bit unhappy. A few leaves turn brown common. Just remove the brown leaves and place outside in summer , i’m not sure of temps outside in the Mohave dessert … perhaps placing in a sunny place less water and give it time to recover. Usually it becomes happy and flourishes in a warm indirect light placement. , grows many new leafs and will surprise you and how well it recovers in just 3-4 months .
