Last week I was reading a book. I love Historical Fiction. I came across the phrase Eye-Yi-Yi. I've heard it used in conversation very often. I just never saw it written and used in a story. Ricky Ricardo, Speedy Gonzalos, and one of the Power Rangers use this phrase. On Saturday evening I needed bread and milk. I stopped at an Amish store. We nicknamed it the "Mennonite Mall". They have everything. On my way to get in my car, I noticed some daylilies in pots for sale. The sign said $3.50 + tax. The variety was Eye-Yi-Yi. I had $4.00 in change from my bread and milk. I grabbed a pot of lilies and marched right back into the store. They gladly took my $4.00.
How could you have possibly done anything else, except maybe, funds permitting, buy several of them... Beautiful blossom! Hank
Beautiful Lily. The phrase can be spelled ay-yi-yi or aye-yai-yai or ai-yai-yai or aye-yi-yi and countless other ways depending on who is translating it.
Cute story, Don. You got to watch those amish though...they will do anything for a sale.. even dream up a name that matches exactly what you were looking for.
On seeing reruns of I Love Lucy, when Ricky spoke in Spanish, the English translation was not shown on the screen.
