If you require a 1m/3ft wide bloom with the smell of rotting meat then this is the plant for you! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6251517.stm
I've seen these flowers before on TV. I think it was David Attenborough who was standing beside one and he said that the stench was almost unbearable and made him really nauseous. It's one way for the plant to attract the insect life it depends on though I suppose. I sure wouldn't want one in my garden.
I think I saw that program too, Eileen. Our local PBS station has shown all of David Attenborough programs. I wouldn't like to stumble across that on a hot steamy day in the jungle.
Remember, I have carrion mushrooms in my garden most of the time. Maybe they are not a mushroom at all, but a variation of this plant. Sure looks the same.
Ugh. Though I admit every year when my pyracantha is blooming I gull my hubby into smelling it. It smells awful also.
I hate the smell of lantana!!! And there are some sages that could drive off any burglar who walked through a garden by mistake.
