I was submitting my sightings to a butterfly website in Wisconsin and just walked out the door and there it was....I grabbed my camera which has a permanent spot on my end table in the Living room and got to snap a few pictures...

Oh wow what a lovely butterfly. Are the black Swallowtails quite common where you are or are they pretty rare? Great shots - so glad you had your camera handy. :stew2:

eileen...no they are not rare here. We have plenty of them, you just have to be ready when you see them. I miss quite a few butterfly pictures because they fly off when I step towards them.

Hi Sherry, either you have a good camera zoom or your "sneak up" abilities are top notch :) Lovely photos.

Frank...seriously, sometimes you have to sneak right up there. You have to watch your shadows so they don't move over them or they move. I try not to let my camera lens swing too...but some butterflys don't seem to mind movement at all. I had one that I had to keep following and I never did get a photo because it would go from flower to flower in fast mode. I would get ready to take the photo and he moved.
