I like the Hollyhock doll but I think I still prefer to see these flowers growing in the garden most of all. :-D

Does anyone know of a product that you sprinkle around the base of a hollyhock to protect it from bugs?? I am sure that at one time I read something somewhere and sprinkled epsom salts or something similar. for the life of me I can't remember now

In olden days they planted them around out house. So when buggy pulled into lane. Company could find it quick. Use to make the dolls -when i was about 6---60 years ago.

Hi Deanna,..the link below will be of help to you,..it mentions of course the main problem disease with Hollyhocks,. as the rust,..and the orange bugs,..note the mention of insecticidal soap and coffee grounds.

As i have Hollyhocks i know very well about the rust so never water the leaves,..after rainfalls i treat the leaves to a home mix of my own,..it contains Liquid Soap and Baking Soda two ingredients bugs do not like so you have a winner there,..the other ingredients are pretty similar and as effective,..i use the mix year round on all my roses and other plants.

    1 Tablespoon of Veg Oil.
1 Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar.
    1 Tablespoon of Liquid Soap.
1 and a half Tablespoons of Baking Soda.
    1 (Teaspoon) of Clear Listerine.

Mix the contents in 1 Gallon of water.
Note do not spray on a sunny day.

My own healthy looking leaves last summer.
