Yep, it’s another inclement day. Nothing for it but to try baking again. I do not know how to bake, and the Bride strongly dislikes it...plus we don’t have a conventional oven. What we do have is a mee-crow wah-vay and it has a hot blowing air setting.

    Let’s get stuck in then.
    Make the dough.

Scoop them out with a big spoon and place them on a baking sheet. I tried to place them irregularly so that they wouldn’t spread out into eachother.

Popped them into the meecrow wah-vay and waited.
The Bride played with the temp settings...and we waited.
    Finally, the finished product.

They spread out and got to be sooooooo thin. I certainly did not know what went wrong, but the Bride, ever the sharpest knife in our drawer called it. She looked it up on the tablet, and there it was— the baking soda had gone off, so they didn’t rise. It had been sitting the coolerator for a couple of years absorbing odours she says. We also did not have any vanilla extract. We substituted a Tony’s chocolonely chocolate bar with almonds and sea salt in it for the choccy chips. I chipped the bar all by myself. :D

The Bride is not at all pleased with the result, but I am over the moon. Alright, the chips could have been larger and they were as flat as flitters, but I find the flavour spot on for my palate.

The Bride wants to know if there is anyone on here that has a recipe for soft chocolate chip cookies that has been tried and tested.

Glad you can see the humour in the baking story. Ach, we are absolutely not bakers, but we do appreciate humour.

Zigs—Ta mate. Ha, ha, ha....yeah, we laughed really hard as well. I always say, just as long as it tastes good, and they are indeed good. But good grief, they are very sad-looking. Thanks for the support though. Chuckle.

For soft cookies,, use solid shortening instead of cooking oil ! Why not invest in one of the counter top toaster ovens ? You can bake almost anything in them short of a turkey ! Just make sure it has a thermostat so temp can be regulated !

Now that’s a thought, Mart. Of course I have to see if the Bride will continue on this out - of - character culinary journey.

Oh dear Sjoerd to get a good result have to have fresh ingredients and a good oven to bake them in and practice makes perfect, but I'm sure that they taste nice.

That recipe is to long and complicated, I think.
    We are baking novices, y’know.

This reminded of my youngest daughter first attempt in making cookies :) and I told her "It's yummy, shape is not important." Now she bake nicely shaped and yummy cookies.

Sjoerd I am sure you can do it :)

Ho, ho...thanks for the encouragement mate. We will try again later. I find those odd cookies really tasty— the taste is there, they just look weird.
Well, if I do not succeed, I can always fall back on Tetters’ brilliant suggestion.
