Well, there still isn't much blooming on the lottie yet, but these permanent ornamental poppies are beginning to bloom now. I just love their rich, dark red colour and their big, floppy petals. I cupped one bloom with my hands to give an idea just how big they truly are.
I don't find the colour true on the fotos (they are a bit darker red), probably because of the lighting--it was too bright, but I wanted to take them in that light because I was afraid that I'd forget later....which I did. ;)
BTW...You can see some yellow lonicera on the arch behind.
They are a very lovely flower, but have no fragrence.

Lovely poppy, and so big too! :D I'm drooling. Ours are still a bit off, and none are as dark and big as yours anyway.

Don't think I've ever seen em that big. Poppies are pretty, I was just one from a neghbor so it probably won't flower this year. Guess I'll have to wait till next year. Also do you get to sit under your yellow umbrella there? Looks nice in a garden of flowers.

I sure do get to sit under that umbrella. It's where we chat and drink tea...and rest inbetween jobs. The little patio is just big enough to fit five adults.
The poppies here bloomed the first year I had them, so who knows. ;)

Absolutely gorgeous Sjoerd! I had red ones like yours at the old house. I bought some new ones when I moved here and they turned out to be orange. They are nice too, but I really like the red ones.
Petunia-mine bloomed the first year too.

Wow, Sjoerd, that is beautiful. I would swear that was grown up here,, where everything grows twice as big and twice as fast. That is a very beautiful flower. Thank you!

Thanks folks, for your gracious comments. It is always such a pleasure to see those big things open up in the late spring.I only have a couple, and eaqch year I say to myseld that I must save some seedlings---and always forget or give the seed pods away.
    Thanks again.

The poppies are wonderful. LIke Eileen, mine have big fat buds full of promise but are still tightly closed. I reakon I will have to wait another week or 2 before I see any colour.

Those are beautiful! Mine are the orange ones, but I planted more last year. I sure hope they are the darker red now!

I have a couple of those orange ones too. They are gorgeous, aren´t they? I like the permanent poppies, and the colours are startling.
