This is my first time posting and I have to say I've been inspired by the creativity that I've seen. I was looking for online "tips" on creating my own "Forest Faces" for my trees. I couldn't remember the recommended products. I found an old package of sculpy that I decide to fool around with. I used some of those glass "marble" things for the eyes and I like the effect. I still need to paint and seal the face, but love the effect. I am planning to use live spanish moss for the mustache. Here is a picture with the sealer drying on the eyes....
Sounds as cute as can be, hummingbird, :-D I hope that you'll show us some pictures of your creation. I have one of the store-bought faces, which is okay, but yours sounds much better. Welcome to the Stew, by the way, lots of creative folks here to share fun and crafty ideas with.
Thanks Zuzu! Here he is in all his glory! He was surprisingly easy to make too. He looks a bit stoned, definitely "glassy eyed". I saw an owl face that I was thinking of buying, it might be beyond me to sculpt it. I think I need to make Treebeard's eyes a bit bigger...at least for this tree, the proportion doesn't seem right! :-D
Your forest face reminds me of an owl Hummingbird - I love it!!!! Welcome to GardenStew by the way and I'm sure you'll find lots of new 'crafty' ideas here that you can try out. :-D Here's a piccie I took on holiday in Holland recently that I thought you'd like to see.
Thanks Eileen! Hmmm, now that you mention it, I do seem some owl resemblance too. I really love the clever use of the bicycle as a pair of glasses! That is a very smart idea for a stump isn't it! Love the hat as well!
I think maybe I'm a mean Mom...hehe...Treebeard is a big Oak with branches that umbrella around him...like a secret room. I planned to put the face there to freak out the kids....I wanted a very subtle face...to have kind of a "did I really see that?" effect.
Oh, hummingbird, I knew it would be wonderful and I was so right! I just LOVE your Mr Treebeard! He is subtle, but has loads of personality. Eileen, that picture is just priceless. :-D What a great way to preserve a beautiful tree trunk even if the top of the tree had to be taken down. That's a similar situation to what we had, a tree broken by a hurricane, but we cut it about 5 feet tall, and put the face on it, :-? our manufactured face is really quite boring compared to either of these.
Thanks Zuzu! :-D I think those glass floral "marbles" are fantastic....I can't wait to put some all over my old bowling ball!!!
:-D Thanks Bethie....I guess I've just got THAT particular owl drilled into my head, and I know I can't make that exact one, but of course I'll give it a try. I think I saw someone doing these with some other product but I don't remember what they used.
