Frilly pink flowers, woody stem, leaves fold up at night

    I found this plant on the mark down rack. The flower reminded me of a Mimosa tree, but the leaves are different.
    I'm still thinking it's in the same family.

    It's a Calliandra but I am not sure of the species. Looks like a Calliandra fulgens with that dark red center, a synonym for which is Calliandra falcata. Common name Powder Puff Tree. I don't think there is a lot of agreement in the botanical world about the specific species of any of the plants in the Genus, they all appear to have several synonyms. And yes it is in the Mimosa sub-family of the Pea Family.

    Thanks Toni. I remember Mimosa's being called Powder Puffs too.
