Before We Started the Front Garden Walkway

The lowest rock wall runs along our driveway. It goes the full length of the front of our house and loops around to the right in this picture. The walkway is between the second and third rows of rock. It has always been there but you had to walk at a slant and almost fall over. We just never finished it when our daughter got sick. At the very top is our rose garden with grass as a walkway.

This little corner on the left at the bottom of the steps will become another rock walled little garden.

All we have to do is put some kind of gravel in the walkway. This is such a steep area that it was dangerous for some people to walk down this area so we wanted to make it safer. I think it will work. The above area is nice and flat and our rose garden area.

Looks beautiful Barb. Your new walk looks very attractive and very safe. And such a lot of work! I am amazed at your energy.

Sometimes I wish for elevations and slopes... other times... I'm glad it's just plain ol' flat here! :stew2:

All the hard work is worth it, the walk way is beautiful and it makes your palace on top of the hill really majestic. :)

You can both pat yourselves on the back as that's a great job you've done on the walkway Barb. Now you can feel much safer when walking in the garden. Well done. :-D

    Thanks everyone.

Once it gets filled in with rock edging and plant growth it should work well. My hubby really did all the work. He is a trooper. It's a job we have put off for many many years, even knowing how dangerous it was to have others walk in that area. We may have to add shingles on the steps to avoid slipping when wet but that's all.

What a great transformation! Safer, better looking, and as KK said, it really sets off your house.
If you don't want to add shingles, there is an outdoor paint intended for patios and decks that contains coarse sand (or something like) that gives traction. You might want to spray that on the steps. It's available at big-box stores, and at some paint stores.

Looks great. Can't wait to see the finished look. Did you have certain plants in mind?

That little corner garden is a very sunny spot. I just through 2 Hosta in on either side. They should do fine there as the main plant is in the sun now. I thought Columbine would be nice there also. It's a long area but only about a foot deep.

Good job. Wish ours was little higher---no worry about flooding.
