Since there are people here from all over the world, I was wondering what people in your area do to get ready for winter, or for anyone south of the equator, ready for summer? It's a little early now, but after our first frost, I will clean the dead stuff out of the gardens and put mulched leaces down to protect some stuff. I have already start getting firwood laid in to protect me! In November I will take the mower deck off of the tractor and put the snow blower on and get it ready. And that's about the extent of my preparations.
We spent the day moving the wood left from last year into the current use woodshed and cutting the wood we've been gathering into 4 ft. lengths and storing it in the wood for next year woodshed. We still have a lot to do before we can use our driveway again. Brian says two days. I might not make it in too days. There is a lot of wood still on that pile. But other projects depend on getting the wood stored. I still have to plant bulbs, thin iris's, and clean out the garden. We haven't had a frost yet so that's not a priority. I'm still getting squash and tomatoes and peppers. I need to get some straw or mulch for the vines I just planted. There is always way more to do than time to do it. Brian says it's keeping us young. It is better than watching tv all of the time. Dooley
I've got to finish of the waterfall mound and get it planted up as well as cleaning out the pond and cutting back shrubs and trees ready for winter. After that a good mulch around the more tender plants and planting more bulbs. Still got to fell the cherry tree and the two hollies before winter takes a grip too.
