Not sure what type of hosta this is, but I've got them growing everywhere.

Mine never get as big as that as the slugs and snails make sure they don't grow to be that size.:(

There are hundreds of Hosta cultivars! The more interesting ones can be harder to find, and more expensive. Gorgeous! Regardless of the leaves, my fav are any with wonderfully scented blooms. I've never sniffed a purple one with a scent, but the white blooms are almost always scented, similar to Jasmine or Gardenia.

That hosta is g...g...g...gargantuan. I have a similar one except it is not variegated. It is scheduled to be split next year for the 8th time in 40 years. This keeps it to a manageable size. My parents gave it to us but no name. It was probably planted by my grandmother in a garden a long time ago and far, far away.

Some hosta like 'Empress Wu' and 'Gentle Giant' are in the 30 to 40 inch height range but neither is variegated.

I do love hostas and that is a beauty. Many of mine are finally reaching their mature size. I am a bit partial to the minis and smaller varieties and finally got brave enough to plant them all into the ground after years in pots. Some people don’t like their blossoms but I enjoy the flowers and fragrance as much as I enjoy the variety of leaf structures.

Is this hosta also referred to as a Plantain Lily?

Hosts and plantain lily are general common names, not specific to variety.

Last year I had to use Grandfather's ax to split a hosta. Would an ax help?
