I had to take down my bird feeders because the squirrels and chipmunks were tearing up the flowers trying to get to the feeders :( , so I am happy the goldfinches like the zinnia seed. :D

Great photographs Gail of your Goldfinch enjoying his Zinnia snack!! We have House Sparrows here that seem to be partial to my Busy Lizzies but our Goldfinches seem to prefer Teasel and sunflowers. :-D

Gail, Your photos are just amazing! The little guy seems to be enjoying his Zinnia snack. I'd sure love to see one munching on my Zinnias :)

Thanks for all the nice compliments. I am so glad I planted the zinnias this year. They are one of my favorite cut flowers.

Sjoerd...Yes they like zinnia seeds and also the coneflower seeds.

I am new to the forum. We have an entire flock of goldfinches and they have been very distructive in my new garden. They pluck the petals off of everything that looks good to them. Coneflowers, blackeyed susans, gerbera daisys, zinneas, and my sunflowers. I now have a lot of stems instead of flowers! They are beautiful birds with the cutest personalities but.....

Tami,I don't have as many finches since I took the feeders down for the summer but they stop by several times a day to eat the seeds of my zinnias & coneflowers. The butterflies really enjoy them too. I don't mind as long as they save a few for me. They are fun to watch.
