    My Goldfinches,

I have to take the Images inside because these birds are soon spooked. If I even walk towards the window it can spook them.

As you can tell from my avatar Goldfinches are one of my favourite garden birds. We have quite a few pairs here and I'm hoping to see them bringing their youngsters to the garden again this year.

They are pretty birds with the markings they have, stripes on the head and neck and the white dots on their tail.

Kate, what is the ball thinging next to the bird feeder? Is it a counterbalance?

    A Waspintor Cayuga.

With one of those hung out its supposed to look like a wasp's nest and wasps don't nest on/in another's patch/garden.

Not seen any Wasps this end of the summer and the Waspintor split so I took it down. They only last a few weeks but probably good when wasps are looking for a place to build a nest early summer.

You fill with newspaper or plastic bags.

Thanks Kate. I'll keep that in mind. I find wasps are creatures of habit: once they find a "good' location for their nest, they keep coming back. The waspintor might discourage them.
