Over the long Labor Day weekend, my husband tilled the entire vegetable garden. This is only half of it from a previous photo, so you can tell what a job he had!

I sifted and tossed compost on the gardens today, and will be planting beans and cucumbers on Friday. Couldn't have done it without my sturdy, reliable helper and his tiller :smt008 .

That is a mighty amount of work. Your plot looks quite nice and the soil has a nice appearance.

When I see that soil there, I just want to sink my hands into it, take-up in two hands full and smell it.

    Well done you two!

There are times when a strong man really comes in handy!! I don't suppose you're planning to send him on a trip to Scotland are you? ;)

Thank you all, our soil is good, thank heavens! We have amended with rotted manure and with compost, but it was pretty good to start out.
Eileen, no I have no plans to send him to Scotland, but if he has to till again anytime soon, he may sneak off on me! Look for a tired looking guy on your doorstep, muttering about slave-driving wives.

Nice looking soil. Do you fence the area off for things like rabbits? We have 3 areas. And have to keep main place fenced. And spray critter control on other area.

Koszta, we haven't had to fence in our gardens so far. We have coyotes in the area that keep the rabbit and opossum population under control. Armadilloes don't bother the garden but they love the flower beds! However, this summer we developed a family of rabbits in the barn pasture, so I may have to take measures to save our fall garden!
Doesn't your Vizla scare off the rabbits?
